Probems with exit functionality Presenter 13, Storyline 2 quizmaker 13 in native App

Mar 28, 2017

We are providing a LMS App for a client allowing users to download SCORM modules for offline use if there is no connection. The App can be installed on devices with Android, iOS and Windows and has been developed with Electron. The App contains an in-app browser based on Chromium to launch content built with a variety of authoring tools.

The standard process for a user in the App is the following
1) see the list of assigned courses
2) select and open one of the courses to see the learning path with all modules
3) select and launch one of the previously downloaded modules (modules are launched in a web view/in the in-app browser)
Articulate HTML5 output works fine as long as the modules are launched on the mobile devices from the LMS in a standard browser, e.g. in Chrome or Safari on an iPad. They open in a separate tab and using the exit function this tab is closed. But in the App the behavior of some Articulate modules is different and not consistent.
The content can be downloaded and launched without problems. But when a user then exits a downloaded SCORM module built with Articulate Storyline 2, Presenter 13 or Quizmaker 13 we have encountered the following situation and issue:
- Android: the web view/in-app browser with the content is closed and the learning path view of the course is shown again -> OK
- iOS: the web view/in-app browser with the content is closed but the user lands back on the course list (the main view of the app), not on the learning path view of the course -> not OK
- Windows: the web view/in-app browser with the content is closed and a second instance of the app is launched -> not OK

In comparison to that modules built with Articulate Presenter 360 behave consistent and ok on all 3 platform. On exit the learning path view of the course is presented.

So there seems to be a difference in the way the modules work on close / exit. How is this exactly handled in the tools and what functions are used/called? How can we modify this so the Presenter 13 and Storyline 2 modules also work as needed? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hey Wiegand!

Wow, that sounds like a really impressive setup you've built! Viewing Articulate content through a third party app and editing published outputs are outside of our support, so that may be why you're running into these hiccups. Our list of system requirements for Storyline 2 and Studio 13 , specifically the Browsers and Mobile Apps sections, are great references regarding supported environments.

That being said, I know we have some really tech-savvy folks that push the boundaries of our software quite frequently in this community. Perhaps someone who's been able to accomplish this successfully can chime in with some additional insight here. :)
