I am having a problem attaching a pdf file as a hyperlink. i have tried all the options provided here so far. By putting it as an attachment, but providing the hyper link only to the name of the pdf, by placing the pdf in the same folder as published output folder, checking for internet explorer option, but nothing seems to be working at all.
What i always do is upload my pdf to the server under say a folder called documents - Then all you need is copy the direct link to the pdf and add the link by highlighting a bit of text on your slide and right click and choose hyperlink - here you can paste your direct link.
Our guys are concerned about security issues regarding too much content being publicly available via visible URLs. So we agreed to use http://www.box.net for file hosting. It's a very cool service - create online folders > upload files > grab the 'share' URL > paste into PPT > away you go.
You need to check its working on your production server as testing locally may not work. I take it your hyperlink is the just yourfilename.pdf, I would put the attachments in a folder in the root of the published output
e.g. pdfs/yourfilename.pdf
the only issue here is that ppt will rename that hyperlink each you open the file to pdfs\yourfilename.pdf
You can get round this by writing a macro to change all \ to /
or use tiny.urls or another url shortening service
Thanks a lot guys, as of now, I’m working on my local machine and I am not so clued up about the server option.
The pdf is visible in the attachments of the published file, and the hyperlink works if I view it as a ppt. but the moment I publish it, it stops reading the link, even thought, the link path is correct.
Hi, I'm having the same issue of a hyperlink to a pdf file not working. It has worked in the past and I don't know what's different. I am receiving the error message below. The dropbox option is a good one but I am selling this course to a company for their LMS so I would prefer not to have anything on my system.
Hi Robert - yes first I was trying that with no luck. Then after some research I inserted the doc as an attachment and then linked to that. It worked in preview mode but didn't work when published. I redid everything again and republished and it seemed okay but I don't have full confidence in that and I'm not positive how it will work in a LMS environment. Anyway, after spending about a zillion hours on this project, it got sent off to the client at midnight with my fingers crossed!

check the case of your link, windows is happy with changing case, however unix based servers will not find your file if your case does not match
Phil
you mean rename the file with lower case?
no just ensure that the link and filename are exactly the same case, also make sure when you publish there are no backslashes in your links

Alanna, are you trying hyperlink OUT to a pdf, different from using the Attachments tab?
