Problem with sync'ed animations after publish and in preview mode

Jan 26, 2015

Hi all,

recently updated to Studio '13 and got this "gift" (which I have never seen before in the old version:

I have a simple enough ppt presentation with voice-over. I sync'ed the animations on all slides and published. After that I uploaded it to LMS only to find that no animations start like they should. I re-opened it afterwards and checked the "Sync animations" options to see if the Presenter ignored my wish to save the changes from Friday but there all the animations worked like a charm. Then I tried to Preview but there the animations are out of sync again.

Any good guesses e-learning Heroes?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Ashley,

Thanks for a prompt answer!

Unfortunately moving to a local drive was the first thing I tried. Also I tried to copy all the slides to a new ppt. And nothing helped.

I shortened the file to just two of the most basic slides. If you check it through "Sync animations" (press "play" there) you will see that animations go on as planned (I doubt that you will understand it since the texts and voice over is in Latvian :] ) but if you go and click "Preview" the animations only start after a very long pause.

Let me know if you notice anything out of the ordinary!

Hi Oskars,

I'm not sure I'm seeing the same thing as you - so let me describe a bit more about what I'm seeing.

I clicked on the "Animations" tab and clicked preview - all the animations of the text began immediately. If I use the "Sync Animations" from the Articulate tab - that will overwrite your existing animations synced.

When I use the regular "Preview" button from the Articulate tab to preview that slide - the animation of the text starts to appear about a quarter of the way in on the seekbar - which as I can't read/understand the text - I'm unsure if that's when you'd want it to appear, although it does seem to match what I'm seeing as the animation points when in your audio editor.

Hi again Ashley,

it is a huge shame that our timezones are sooooo different and we both have to wait for a reply for a whole day. :]

Anyhow, I checked same things again  - audio editor shows the animations like I sync'ed them and Preview decides on its own timing.

So you can get better idea I changed the second slide of this ppt (attached) so that the bullet-point actually displays the timing of the animation (meaning - the first bullet now says "0:09" which means it should come up at 0:09 audio time).

Please look at it and let me know what do you see. I do hope I am not going crazy :]

Hi Oskars,

Thanks again for sharing a file and clarifying with those time points. I tested again - and looking at things in your audio editor it's not set to come in at 0:09 seconds - so I recorded a video to show that here.  I then tried to resynced some of the animations on Slide 2 based on your times, and those worked as expected. Is this only happening in this one file for you? Again you mentioned moving it to a local drive, but the corruption issues may not be resolved based on that alone if it started on a network drive. Can you test this out in a brand new file to see how the animation timings work?
