Problem with translation export in Articulate studio 13

Nov 26, 2015

Hi,

We have a series of courses built in older version of Articulate studio. Now we want to translate them and tried to export content for translation in latest Articulate Presenter 13. In the exported word document I can see all the content from Engage and Quizmaker. However the slide content (all the text layers)are missing in the word document. We tried to build another testing course using Articulate Presenter 13 and export translation. It turned out all text layers on each slide are not exported either. I wonder what we should do to resolve this issue.

Thank you for your help in advance.

Hi Tony,

By an older version do you mean Studio  '09 or a previous update of Studio '13? Also you mentioned text layers, and I'm not sure I'm clear on what you mean by that as Studio doesn't have slide layers like Storyline does. Could the text layers you're referring to be images within your Presenter content? As those won't be included as a part of the text export - only text on the slide in a text box or shape.

Hi Ashley,

Thank you for your reply. By an older version I mean a previous version of Studio '13. By text layer I mean the text on the slide in a text box or shape. The course contains slides with text boxes, Engage and Quiz. When exporting content for translation, the text in text boxes are not included in the word document.

Thanks Tony for clarifying. Would you be able to create an Articulate Presenter package to share with us here? That way we'll be able to look at what occurs when going through the export process. Can you also confirm that you're working on local project files and that you're following the steps here to export for translation?

Hi Ashley,

Yes we have followed these steps. Attached is the testing course we made in latest version of Articulate presenter '13. It contains one slide with text (in text box and shape) and Engage. The exported_translation.doc is exported from this course, which only contains text in Engage.

Thank you.

Thanks Tony for sharing here and letting me take a look. When I took a look I saw it was behaving as expected per the translation export and the crucial element is this note:

Only Articulate-related items will be exported—Presenter player elements (slide titles, navigation buttons, player tabs, etc.), embedded quizzes, and embedded interactions. PowerPoint slide content and notes will need to be translated separately. See step 5 for details.

You'll want to look at using Powerpoint's built in translation feature to translate the slide content.
