Problems with SWF display in Presenter

May 10, 2013

Hi, I'm having problems with a set of SWF animations provided by my client. When I put them into Presenter, the animation display is messed up. There is supposed to be a nice even border around the outside edge of the animation, but in Presenter there is content outside the border, and the border does not have clean corners. Tthis happens both in preview and after published. Have tested both IE and Chrome.

Here is how it is supposed to look:

And this is how it actually looks in Presenter:

We've done this successfully before with this same client, though previously they sent us files in FLV format.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

This is (as far as I know) standard Presenter behavior with SWF files.

In Flash, you set up your animation inside the "frame" that you specify, but you can have objects outside the frame if you want.

When you play the movie in a Flash player or through a web page (which uses the Flash Player), the Flash player uses the frame settings to refrain from showing anything outside the frame.

I suspect that when Flash exports its content as a FLV (flash video) file, the extraneous material is cropped in the process.

Presenter, on the other hand, is basically its own Flash movie that has embedded your SWF on the page. As such, the boundaries that were set in the Flash movie are ignored and Presenter shows anything that's visible within its own frame (the header, the navigation panel, the slide area, and the controls on the bottom are all inside that frame)

(As an aside, this is a nice feature that allows your Logo or Presenter SWF to have parts appear in the main slide window.)

The Flash developer for your client is probably unaware of this "feature". They should be able to give you a cropped version fairly easily if they have access to the original Flash file.

Good luck,

Paul K.
