Proofing Language causes Publish to crash

I have encountered a strange problem in Studio 13 that causes Presenter to crash on publishing. I am working on some courses I originally built in Studio 09. Since then another party has edited the PowerPoint files to translate them into a couple of different languages - and they sent these back to me to import their foreign language audio and re-publish them. 

Every time I try to publish - or even to preview a slide - Presenter 13 crashes and sends off an error report. 

I have discovered that if I manually go into each slide - and set the proofing language of all objects to Portuguese Brazil - that presenter will publish them OK. THis works even when the language is NOT Portuguese Brazil. I have tried Spanish Mexico - but it will still crash. The original language of the files was English. 

The trouble with this process is it is too time consuming! I have 48 of these to do and each has multiple slides to edit. 

Has anyone else encountered this problem? Why does the proofing language selection cause Presenter to crash when publishing? Is there a fast way to fix this problem without editing every slide and every object?
