Publish as a PDF

Mar 30, 2011

Can I publish as an interactive PDF from Articulate? I was using Captivate and was able to publish that way in that program, but need to use Articulate for my current project. Is it possible to publish the Articulate presentation as an interactive PDF?

Thanks!

I was also wondering about the PDF output. This was a very convenient feature of Captivate because it allowed me to easily share my interactive courses with those who don't have access to our LMS. Do you know if this functionality will be in the next upgrade?

How do others currently share their interactive courses with users who don't have access to an LMS? (Our temporary employees don't have access at this time.) My best option seems to be burning the course onto CDs.  I've been instructing users to open the source files on my CDs and click the "player" file to launch the course. There has to be a more user friendly way to do this. Do I have to include all source files for it to work correctly?

Hi Heather!

It's not our policy to discuss plans for future releases, but we definitely listen to your input and take it seriously, so if there's something you'd like to see, I'd encourage you to make a feature request

When publishing your course to CD, yes, all of the source files are necessary, but you should have your users launch the course using the launch_presentation.exe to avoid security restrictions. There’s also an autorun file, which should cause your presentation to launch automatically when learners insert a CD containing your published output.

I hope you find that helpful

Thanks for the reply Peter. I did use your feature request link.

Okay - so the reccomeded way would be to publish for CD use and have the user click the Launch_presentation.exe. I see that this file has an Articulate icon it. Does this mean that the user would have to have Articulate on their computer to view it?

I also see the autorun file. I tested burning the CD publish files to a CD to see if this would automattical launch when a learner puts in the CD. It did not. Is there something additonal that I have to do to make this happen?

Thanks for your help,

Heather

Hi Heather,

For autorun to work, the published output needs to be at the root level of the cd, not in a folder. So, if your CD-ROM is the D: drive, the path should be D:\autorun.inf, not D:\my_presentation\autorun.inf.

If the directory structure of your CD is correct and autorun is still not working, please refer to the Microsoft Support site KB article:

The AutoRun feature or the AutoPlay feature does not work when you insert a CD-ROM in the drive
