Published Presentation for CD and Attachments do not run

May 20, 2013

I realize that questions of this type have been asked and answered many time, but none of the threads I have found solve the problem.

I've tried removing "saved from url=(0014)about:internet" from the player.html file. That didn't work.
I've tried holding down CNTL before clicking the links. That didn't help.

I am publishing for CD.
I am on a PC running Windows XP, Powerpoint 2010 (I've reinstalled), and the most recent patch for Presenter 09.

When I copy the folders from the CD to the desktop ON MY MACHINE everything works fine.
When I copy the folders from the CD onto the desktop of any other machine they do not work.

In addition this is something I have now done without a single problem perhaps as many as 50 times in the last 4 years.

The only thing I can think of is that the security features of browsers have changed, but I have no idea what to do about it.

I still have a week before this MUST be available, but I really appreciate a solution right now.
Thanks,

JP

Hi JP,

And you're being sure to launch the course using the Launch_Presentation.exe file, correct?

Are you able to upload the source files for us to check out? First, create an Articulate Presenter Package of your presentation as described here. Then upload the resulting zip file from your computer on the second page of this form, and we''ll attempt to diagnose what's happening when we receive your upload.

Thanks!

I'm sure I mentioned that I'm publishing for CD.
I'm doing that because publishing for the WEB and running it on a local machine works even less well.

The CD published folders that were created on my machine do not include a file named "Launch_Presentation.exe".All that appears in the published folders created this time are "player.html" and two folders, "data" and "player."

HOWEVER... your message gave me a lead to follow... missing files in the published file sets, so I republished the presentations and voila the new files sets included Launch_Presentation.exe, loader.ini, and autorun.inf files in addition to the file and 2 folders in the sets I published yesterday.

I have no idea why or how this would happen. Yesterday I published all 8 modules for CD and all 8 came out with only a player.html file and player and data folders. Today I used exactly the same setting (except I sent the file sets to a different folder) and all 8 came out with the 3 additional things listed above.

Does anyone have any idea why this might happen?

Anyway... thanks for the nudge. JP

Nice, glad to hear it, JP

Your mention of publishing to a different folder may have been the difference. We recommend a few basic rules when using Articulate:

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names.

Let us know if you run into any other issues...
