Publishing in Presenter 9

The “Publish” for Presenter 9 does not complete, it stops somewhere through the process and checks out or hangs-up. I am using Power Point 10 on a 64 bit machine with Windows 7. Power Point does not like Articulate and when PP opens it claims that Articulate is a problem and want to shut it down.

The system works until I add a question slide from Quiz Maker to the presentation and this is when the problems start. Some of the time the Publish will freeze on a slide that has not been edited and has correctly published before. It does not hang-up on the same slide each time and it has never hung-up on the quiz slides. Sometimes headings are added vertically down some of the slides and are a pain to get rid of.

I have repaired both Power Point and Articulate and this sometimes solves the problem for one publish but nothing passed that. I am revising about 40 to 50 lectures and do not have time to constantly fight with Articulate.

Help.

Paul

Good morning Paul. Welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble publishing your presentations. I noticed you mentioned you have Windows 7 64-bit installed, but do you know what version of Office is installed?

Microsoft released a 32-bit and a 64-bit version of Office 2010. Microsoft recommends installing the 32-bit version, and Articulate Presenter '09 will only work with the 32-bit version. Presenter '09 also will not work with the Click To Run version of PowerPoint 2010. For more information, please review this article.

I put together a quick screencast that shows how to determine which version you have installed:

If you've confirmed that you are using the 32-bit installation of Office, please make sure that you're working with local files.

Here are some tips for managing your files which can help prevent issues.

1.  Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.

2. You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).

3.  Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names.

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in this Microsoft article.

If all of your files are local, or you still experience issues running and publishing from Presenter after making the changes listed above take a look at this knowledge base article. Follow the steps provided for your operating system (Windows 7 is the first section covered in the article).

Hopefully the information above will have you up and running. If not, please let us know!
