I have a course I'm building where there is some supplemental information contained in a PDF document. Is there any way to create a slide or engage interaction where a user cannot progress until they opened the PDF?
I don't know of any way to require the user to open a PDF, other than maybe including an honor-system type acknowledgement in the course. For example you could have the PDF available either on the tab at the top or link in a page and direct the user to click on and open it. Then the next slide have a one question quiz with an acknowledgment statement with a yes/no of whether or not they opened the PDF. If they answered no, then they get returned to the slide with the PDF and have another opportunity to open it.
Another possible way would be if your PDF has some key information on it and you direct the user to open the PDF and read it, and then require them to answer a few questions they could only answer if they actually read the PDF. This concept is very similar to wanting to require users to view a video. See the forum post below for a more detailed explaination and links to examples:
