Does anyone one know if you can use portions of research articles and site the source, without getting specific permission, or is that taboo? Can you summarize portions of the article?
Copyright is certainly not something you'd want to get wrong...and depending on where you're getting the articles from, they may indicate what the allowable use is, for example if it's being used for purposes within educational institutions, you're able to use it in full with proper citation. I'm certainly not a copyright expert, but haven't heard anything about summarizing an article being a copyright infringement (if still cited appropriately). You may want to also post this in the Building Better Courses forum since it's more content and instructional design specific.
Definitely check to be sure - but most research materials are able to be used by educational institutions within the classroom or for the purpose of training.

We are an educational institution. I'll have to check on that.
Thanks,
Julie
