Results grade not being recorded by Moodle

Dec 13, 2013

I've created a scorm packaged piece of e-learning with a quiz at the end to test the knowledge gained. When this is uploaded to Moodle the grade achieved is not being recorded by Moodle.

My Moodle support says "the scorm api logs as the quiz in the scorm activity is being classed as a lesson in the api which doesn't pass any assessment/grade when the quiz is complete" and they can't help me any further.

On another Moodle Scorm installation I have the quiz as a different topic and that works fine, but it was my understanding that assessments within an e-learning scorm package should be identified and graded.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Nick. I'm actually using Firefox. I have other courses that are directly loaded as Scorm type courses but with no assessment within them.  This is the only one I've done that has the assessment within the SCORM package, but I didn't think this would be a problem. This one and others I've done require a certificate to be produced once the grade is 80%, hence the problem that the grade is not being recorded. I've therefore loaded the Articulate zip as a scorm activity within a topic.

Am I correct that if the assessment is part of the e-learning package Moodle can record the grade?

I had hoped to come back to you with the outcome, however I've had a nightmare because since changing the settings I haven't been able to package up the e-learning. Every time I go to publish Articulate stops working after getting to about the 9th slide. I've uninstalled Articulate, rebooted and reinstalled and still have the problem. I've tried resetting the tracking to the original setting and as soon as I clicked to publish the package stopped working. Now I'm not sure what else I can try.

So frustrating when you think  you may have solved one problem and then find another!

Hi Carolyn,

Sorry to hear that!

Just in case the files were moved while you were working on them, it may be best to first ensure the files are on your local hard drive.

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names (this includes spaces and underscores).

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the followingMicrosoft article.

Which method did you use for uninstalling and reinistalling? If you haven't used the steps listed in this support article, please try that and see if it helps.

If that doesn't work, can you try publishing a new presentation? Does the same thing happen with this new project? If not, it may be an issue of corruption with the project file.

This may help with that:

I've been pretty much spending the whole day on this. i tried publishing a different course and Articulate stopped working so I not only uninstalled Articulate but Office 2010 as well. I then rebooted, reinstalled Office, ran the batch file pre.bat, reinstalled Articulate 09 and then rebooted. I then ran the post.bat file.

I went to publish the presentation and it got all the way to slide 85 of 96 and then stopped working again.

I am now at a loss as to know what to do and have a customer who is getting rather cross!

Hi Carolyn,

Oh no - sorry to hear that!

Just curious - does it always seem to stop on a specific slide (85 of 96)? If so, it might help to remove that slide for testing and see if the presentation publishes correctly. If it does, it may be content on that slide. If it does not, and the "sticking" slide seems to change, it might be an issue with corruption.

Could you let me know how that goes, please?

Thanks!

Carolyn Lewis

Hi Christine

The publishing stops on random slides, on any presentation I've tried to publish. I notice, although maybe it always does this, that as it's publishing an additional slide keeps flicking up and when it stops working an additional slide which has parts of a slide on it has been added to the end of the presentation.

Your help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Christine Hendrickson

Hi Carolyn,

That really is some strange behavior. This happens with any current presentation you're working with - does it also happen with a blank presentation? If you get a chance, please try creating a new presentation and create a few blank slides. Does this publish successfully?

Are you able to share one of the projects that isn't working properly? You'll want to create a Presenter Package and attach the package to this thread. Please keep in mind that if the file is too large, you may not be able to attach it here. In that case, you're welcome to send it to me, or you can send it over to our support team for testing.

Here's how to create a Presenter Package:

I've been off for the holiday period. I'm still having problems and am going to send the articulate package to you. I've tried different presentation, new presentations and the one I'm having problems with and Articulate crashes when I try and publish them. I've uninstalled and reinstalled articulate 3 times following the instructions on the website. I don't know what else to do which is why I'm taking your advice and sending the presentation that is now critical that I publish for the client.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Carolyn,

No problem - welcome back! I hope you had a great holiday :)

I was able to find your support case (#00377474 for my reference) and I see that Rowie is working with you on this. Looks like there are a few new emails from you today.

I'll be following along with the case progress and try to follow up with you here on the forums.

Thanks!
