Reusing existing audio file

Nov 05, 2012

I've followed the tutorial on this but surely i should be able to export audio from just one slide in a presentation and not the whole lot? There doesn't seem to be an option for this.....am i wrong?

Hi Stan! Right, when you export audio from Presenter, it will create a separate wav and/or mp3 of each slide's audio in your course. If you only need one of these for repurposing elsewhere, you could just delete the unneeded files; however most people prefer to keep a complete set of the audio files for backup purposes, just in case they ever need to re-import their audio to their presentation.

I see. Seems a little crazy considering that if i wanted a back up of my work i would back up the entire slideshow, audio an all. But thanks for the advice, i can do it the way you suggest but a bit of a pain when you've got a presentation of 200 plus slides (military courses dont come small!) and you only want to isolate the one.

Am i right in saying that storyline is the newest version of this software? i'm still on studio 09, how do i go about upgrading? does it come at a cost?

Hi again Stan,

Storyline's actually a separate product (not an upgrade).  But a lot of folks are indeed excited about it, and many are choosing to transition to Storyline from Articulate Studio.

In a nutshell, here are the differences:

  • Studio is a great tool if you prefer working in a PowerPoint environment. As you know, it includes 3 tools that you can use together or as a suite: Presenter, Quizmaker, and Engage. We're currently working on the next upgrade to Studio, which you can learn more about here
  • Storyline is totally standalone (it doesn't rely on PowerPoint - although you can import PowerPoint content into it if you want). It offers a lot more power and flexibility for building interactivity. It's also a one-stop shop in the sense that it includes all the tools you need for building content, quizzes, and interactions. It also includes a screen recording feature, and a character library which allows you to insert character images into your course (with a variety of different poses and expressions). You can use Storyline to publish Flash content as well as content that works with an iPad.

If you're interested in Storyline, I'd recommend downloading the free trial and giving it a whirl. There’s no upgrade path from Studio ’09 to Storyline because they’re two distinct products. However, there are some nice incentives if you want to transition from Studio to Storyline. First, all Studio ’09 customers who buy Storyline get a bundle of eight photographic characters (valued at $2,392) at no cost. Each high-resolution character pack in the bundle includes 140+ poses, plus torso and headshots, so you’ll have a total of 1100+ poses. These characters are a terrific way to add variety and realism to a course without hunting (or paying) for art online.

Second, if you’re on the Platinum Membership Plan with your Studio ’09 license, you can convert your remaining Studio PMP term to Storyline. This will save you money on your Storyline license. Your Articulate rep can help you with the details. If you don’t know who your rep is, please let me know and I can find out and message you.
