Revising an Articulate presentation

I had to revise an Articulate presentation. When I opened the previously published pptx file to make my revisions, Articulate renamed the original ppta file as OLD and created a new ppta file.

All of the narration files, engage interactions and built in tabs became disconnected from the pptx and all previously "linked" files to the pptx became unlinked. Needless to say it created allot of work to rebuild the presentation and link everything together again.

My question to the forum: Is there anyway to prevent the above mentioned scenario from happening, or is this something that is is going to happen anytime a published Articulate presentation needs to be revised?
