Safari keeps crashing on ipad
Aug 14, 2014
Well, it appears that when exiting engage and quizmaker slides, Safari will crash.
Selected engage settings
Browser size: (display at user's current browser size)
Player size: (lock player at optimal size)
On restart: prompt to resume, and When running in LMS is selected
Quizmaker settings
when user passes: goes to next slide
when user fails: goes to next slide
allow user to leave quiz: after user has completed quiz
User may view slides after quiz: at any time
show in menu as: single item
publish to lms settings
include HTML5 output is selected
Any would be appreciated?

Hi Thomas and welcome to E-Learning Heroes!
Does this only happen with one course or with all courses that you view in Safari?
Can you share your Articulate Package so that we can see if this can be replicated?
We have A LOT of courses we are considering upgrading to Articulate Presenter 2013 (from AP 2009), and before we purchase upgraded licenses for our team, we want to make sure the output is mobile.
So far, we only have a course we are testing. I will upload the package in a separate reply.
In the meantime, here are some links we are using for testing.
Includes Engage 2013 and QuizMaker 2013 slides, and crashes on iPad 2 Safari

Does not include Engage 2013 and QuizMaker 2013 slides, and does not crash on iPad 2 Safari

Thanks!
Leslie I created a package which is zipped, but when I try to attach the file does not load, any suggestions?
Hi Thomas, it must be too large to attach here in the forums. Can you please submit the package here.
Hey Leslie I have a trial version for articulate studio 13, no serial number for articulate 13 yet, but here is a link to where we placed the package,
http://cdsfetn2.pwpl.com/wbc/SMOtest/Back%20Safety_package.zip
hopefully you will be able to get this
Serial number was not required, but thanks, I'll take a look.
Hi Thomas!
Thanks for sharing your file with me.
I took a look and I'm not experiencing the same crashing.
Here is my published output:

I did notice that you have a lot of swf files and those are not going to play in the HTML5 format. Check out the comparison chart here.
Thank you Leslie for all your help.
Of course Thomas
Sorry Leslie, one more thing, when you tested the course, was it tested on an ipad? I'm just trying to determine whether the crashing was caused because of the redvector app we were using to test the course. Or if the crashing was caused because we were using an ipad. Thanks for the feedback.
I tested on an ipad as well Thomas as you shared in your report.
Thanks Leslie, your awesome
We tried the course you published, and we also did not experience it crashing on iPad2 using Safari. But we did notice something though...
We noticed that the file your URL eventually pointed to was presentation_html5.html. I know HTML5 works on iPad, but not IE8. We really need a solution that has HTML5 with Flash fallback for older browsers. We do this to reach the largest amount of learners as possible.
In the course we are testing on our LMS, we are linking to index_LMS.html. Is this the correct file to link to, and does that file include code for browser/device detection?
Also, I wasn't sure if you were able to test these links on iPad Safari:
Includes Engage 2013 and QuizMaker 2013 slides, and crashes on iPad 2 Safari
http://preview.redvector.com/?path=rv_extra/CINet/MOBSA/140814-2/index_lms.html
Does not include Engage 2013 and QuizMaker 2013 slides, and does not crash on iPad 2 Safari
http://preview.redvector.com/?path=rv_extra/CINet/MOBSA/index_lms.html
Thank you so much for your help!
Hi Thomas!
Perhaps it would help to understand how Presenter determines which version of your content to display. Check out this article.
What happens when you look at the course that I shared in IE8?
When we look at the course you shared in IE8, the course plays fine, using Flash.
Thanks for sharing the article! We were linking to index_lms.html, and changed the link to point to presentation.html instead.
We then cleared the Safari history, cookies and data.
We launched the course in iPad Safari (now pointing to presentation.html), and the course crashes when clicking Next on slide 5.4.
Our next step was to launch your version of the course (http://lmckerchie.articulate-online.com/4780580252) from our LMS. The course did not crash when clicking Next on slide 5.4. So strange.
Thoughts?
Hi Thomas!
All I did was publish the course to see if I could re-create your issue, so perhaps you could try to re-publish.
Be sure that you are marking to include HTML5 output:
This tutorial is also a great reference.
