SCORM Zip file

Mar 13, 2013

Simple question:  Can you get the SCORM Zip file without republishing?  I have the published file, but need a copy of the zip file, deleted by mistake.

Hi,

I was wondering if someone can help me in this. I have accidentally deleted a storyline file but have the zipped file. I want to amend the course which I have already published in the LMS. So can I use the zipped file and retrieve the storyline.file from there? if so, how do i do that? I don't want to start doing the course from scratch again. Help!!

Hi Suziana,

Does the .ZIP file actually contain your .STORY file, or is it simply the published output that was zipped? It's only the published output, you won't be able to open and modify the content of the course in Storyline.

I know this isn't what you want to hear. I wish I had better news for you. Unfortunately, if you don't have access to the project's .STORY file, you won't be able to update the course.

Thanks Suziana,

Christine

Hello David and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)

The .story file is the project file and is not a part of the zipped published output. Any chance this is stored somewhere else on your machine?

The file storage of your project files and zipped output files prior to uploading to your LMS is handled differently by clients and is not something we can assist with.

That's precisely what I mean Dave :) It's yours, including how you manage your files. You and your company may have a process for that and Joe with Company X may have a different process is all I meant by different 'clients'.

Going forward, you may decide to have a folder named Project XYZ that includes the zipped published output as well as the original .story file to go with that project for archiving and future use purposes.

You mentioned checking your temp files and this is the only other thing we recommend to check:

1) Open this folder in Windows Explorer: %appdata%\Articulate\Storyline

2) Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.

3) Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.

4) Double-click the file to open it in Storyline.
