Seekbar not working properly since Update 10 of Studio 13

Sep 05, 2018

Hello everyone,

Since the update 10 of Studio 13 (released on Aug. 23 2018), I have experienced problems with the seekbar in the Presenter player when in a browser window (html5 version). I know this is not caused by the publishing options since the behavior is as expected in the mobile player. I also know this is a problem created by the last update because a project published before the update works perfectly and the exact same project does not work when republished after the update.

When in Chrome, I can navigate in the slide content with the seekbar, but it restart the audio from the beginning of the slide whenever I clicked the seekbar. In Firefox, this is even worse. The seekbar seems to "seek" only to specific moments in the slide content, and restart the narration.

I could remove the seekbar from the player, but it seems a bit radical and would be a loss of flexibility for the learners.

Is it something other users have experienced?

Thanks

Thank you Alyssa for the follow up.

Here (http://www2.scg.ulaval.ca/ift1901/Test/SeekbarVSAudio/presentation.html) is a slide I prepared to show the problem. Unfortunately, I cannot publish it in the previous version of Studio 13 to confirm it would have worked correctly.

While viewing the project in Chrome, if you click anywhere in the seekbar, you will see that the timer and the animations stay in sync with the seekbar, but the audio clip restarts. Then, when the duration of 9 seconds for the slide is passed, the seekbar is completely filled and the audio stops, even if the clip is not played completely.

I hope my description of the problem makes sense.

Thanks again.

Thank you Louis-Etienne for demonstrating the problem.  I was able to publish a project with update 9 of Presenter, and then with update 10, and I can see the same behavior.  Clicking the seekbar starts the audio over.

I'll document this issue for our team to investigate.  I'm sorry this popped up for you!  I know you don't want to restrict your learners by removing the seekbar, but it appears to be the only workaround at this point.

I'll keep this discussion updated with any new information we can share.  Thanks for bringing it up!

Thank you Crystal for your investigation of the problem.

Yes, I came to the same conclusion concerning the html5 output. The same project works as expected with the mobile player (tested on Android). I did not test the flash output since this is a format less used in our environment (most of our users are on Chrome).

I agree, removing the seekbar is the best workaround I can think of.

Thanks again

Has there been any update to this? I am having the same problem and my customer base is complaining about not being able to use a progress\seek bar. I've deactivated it for new publications but it's an on-going issue. Are there plans for a fix?

If not, can we get a download of the earlier version and rollback to that so we can publish without this issue?

Katie Riggio

Hi, Derreck. Thanks for reaching out; very sorry you've come across this problem.

I'm going to share your experience in this bug's report, and while we don't have an ETA on a fix as of yet–I promise we'll keep everyone here posted on any new information.

Additionally, I opened a support case on your behalf, so our Support Engineers can help you with installing a rollback to a previous update  ..and if you don't mind sharing your Articulate Package with us, here's the unique upload link to your case!

Thanks again for continuing to reach out, and keep your eyes out for an email from support@articulate.com!

Hi all,

We released an update to Studio '13 today to fix the issue where pausing and resuming a slide or clicking anywhere on the seekbar caused audio to start over. As a result of that issue, animations were no longer in sync with narration.

You'll see this noted in our Version history and you can download the latest update for Articulate Studio '13 here. Updates are free for existing licensees.

I just got around to test the update 11 and I can confirm that the problem has been resolved. I published a project and the seekbar is working as expected (tested on Windows 10, with Google Chrome).

I am still amazed of the fact that your team released an update for Studio 13 (a five year old software) to fix a single bug.

Many many thanks !!!
