Slides won't advance.....

Apr 21, 2013

I have been racking my brain trying to get a course to work - everything is frozen once I publish.  In other words, the preview of the course plays the intro slide, and then is stuck. I found some directions on creating a blank PowerPoint presentation, and then inserting the slides from the presentation, but that did not work.  I have checked all settings (slide properties especially) - cannot see ANYTHING amiss!

I have never seen this before - does anyone have any idea?

Welcome to E-Learning Heroes, Karen!

First, you may want to make sure that you're working with local project files.

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names.

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

If the files are local, can you tell me where the freezing occurs? Does this happen when you're previewing the presentation, or after you've published?

Thanks!

Christine

Christine,

Thanks for the quick reply - unfortunately I have been sick and not working today!

I have confirmed that all of the items you mention are OK, and they are.  I am using Presenter on this project, and have used it for several years without this type of thing happening.

The freezing occurs on BOTH the PREVIEW mode and once I publish.  Before I publish at all, it stops once I ask for the slide range preview - loads and freezes when the timing bar fills up - never shows me a slide.  When I publish, the first slide plays as usual, but I cannot advance using the Play button or the Forward button, or the menu panel.

Could there be something wrong with the PPT file?  It is not my file or design (I am just making do and creating some interactions).  It is very text-heavy, with a lot of FLY IN, DISSOLVE IN, FADE IN animation.  I am trying to think of everything so you may see something that you recognize as an issue!

Good morning, Karen!

So sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. I hope you feel better, soon! :)

It sounds like it may be a problem with either the installation of Presenter, or the file. Are you able to create a new presentation with some slides and content, then try previewing and publishing? Does the same thing happen?

If so, it may be the installation of Presenter. Please follow the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article:

Unexpected or erratic behavior in Articulate Studio '09

If not, it may very well be the file. Are you able to share a Presenter Package here on the forums? Or, if you'd like, you're welcome to send it to us privately through a support case.

Please create an Articulate Presenter package by following the steps in the following article:

Thanks very much, Karen. Feel better!
