I am updating some of our old files and have struck a problem with the audio and video. I seem to have no sound or video any more, it was there when I started but since making changes to the slides it has gone. I have not deleted anything.
Does anyone have an idea how i can get these back?
I do have an original copy of the old files with working sound and video, can this be imported/ pasted to the new file of is it best just to re-record the sound?
Can you provide me with a bit more information? You had old Presenter files that had the audio and video in them or old Powerpoint files? What do you mean when you mention that you are trying to update them? From '09 to '13 or to a newer version of Powerpoint?

I am editing the PowerPoint slides to update/refresh all of ourinternal programs. The files were in Studio 09 and we recently updated to Studio13. Every slide that I edit is updating to Studio 13 when it saves.
This problem is persisting. I have lost imported audio files on several occasions now. Is anyone else having the same problem and can anyone help me to stop it from happening.
The files have been imported from an older version of the presentation and I have had to re-import them a few times now and it is taking time away from completing the presentation.

I did find a thread where a few users were having a similar issue. I would first try to uninstall/reinstall your software as explained here.
You do have the ability to export the narration from your original presentation, and then import it into the new presentation though if needed.
