Spaces appearing between words when publishing

Feb 09, 2011

I am finding weird spaces between words when I am publishing a particular course.

Has anyone else had the same issue, and if so - were you able to fix it??

Hi Kate - We've seen that before. Here's a Knowledge Base that should help:

You'll first want to verify you have the latest version - doesn't hurt to install the latest update.

There are some additional steps if installing the update doesn't help.

PowerPoint 2007

  1. Select the block of text which contains the unexpected additional spacing.
  2. Select the Home tab on the PowerPoint ribbon (toolbar).
  3. Click the Character Spacing button.
  4. Select More Spacing…
  5. Type .1 in the pt field, or click the up arrow for the pt spinner one time.
  6. Click the OK button.
  7. Publish your presentation.

PowerPoint 2003 and earlier

  1. Select the block of text which contains the unexpected additional spacing.
  2. Increase the font size.
  3. Publish your presentation.

Note:  PowerPoint versions 2003 and earlier do not include a character spacing feature.  Depending on the font you have chosen, you may need to make more than one adjustment in font size before the character spacing issue is resolved.

This is a last resort for me.  I don't usually have this problem unless there is a hyperlink or superscript in the text block.  In those instances that the solution David mentions does not work, I copy the text after the weird space and paste it into a new text box.  Once it's pasted in and aligned over the top of the old text, I delete the old text.  I typically have to play with the spacing of the new text by closing the space until it looks right on publish.  It's kind of cumbersome, but it works when all else fails.
