Stop annotations

Apr 29, 2013

I'm trying to sync animations to an imported audio.  As soon as I press "Start Sync"  I get an arrow which is right over the first set of data when I press "Next Animation".  As the voice data goes on the arrow starts to move across the page in a jerky motion.  When I then press "Next Animation"  the arrow moves to the middle of the page and stays there when I press "Next Annimation" for the third set of data.

I've tried setting the system to "Don't Annotate" and unchecked the "Show Annotation Tools" but nothing seems to work to get rid of those arrows.  While I might like them later, right now they're right over the wording on my slide and very disruptive.

Help, please!

Hi Melanie,

There's a few things we may want to check out, to see if we can improve the performance of the annotations for you.

First, please make sure that your system is set to the correct DPI for Presenter. Articulate Presenter ’09 is only supported with a system DPI setting of 96. If you're using any DPI setting other than 96, you'll encounter erratic behavior in the application and the published output. For more information, please take a look at the following article:

Articulate Presenter '09 DPI Support

Please be sure you're working with local project files:

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names (this includes spaces and underscores).

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

You may also want to check the frame rate to ensure you're using the suggested rate for annotations:

Annotations are not synchronized

Though this refers to the program locking up, the suggestions may help with the problem you're experiencing:

Presenter becomes unresponsive when working with audio, animations, annotations, etc.

Though this situation isn't likely, the steps outlined in the following article may also help:

Annotations and the audio editor don't work as expected

I know that's a lot to read, but hopefully one of those solutions will help with this. If the issue continues, please try creating a new presentation and insert some audio. Do you experience the same issue with the arrows in the new file?

Thanks!

Christine

I just tried selecting the check box.  As soon as I start to sync I start getting the annotation, this time a check mark.  Keep in mind that I'm in the sync annimations, not add annotations area.  I've even checked the Don't Annotate box and the annotations aren't lit.  It's like the program is stuck between the two systems.

I did try to sync a recorded audio with a two slide presentation and the problem didn't occur.  Does this mean I'm going to have to start my PowerPoint all over again?

Hi Melanie,

Just to be sure I understand, this didn't happen in another project? If that's the case, it may be an issue with the file, then.

However, before you try to rebuild the presentation, we'd be happy to take a look at it and see what may be happening with the file.

Please create an Articulate Presenter package by following the steps in the following article:

Please be sure to include a description of your issue and also include the URL for this thread in the case. Also, if possible, please share the case number with me, so I can follow up with you in this thread. You're welcome to share the case number in this thread, or send it to me in a private message.

Thanks!

I don't know what caused the problem in the first place, but I think I fixed the problem.  I went through the other slides and found that the problem only occurred on that one slide.  So, I recreated the slide in another part of the presentation, deleted the offending slide, and moved the new slide into place.  The annotations didn't appear.

But what I've found now is that the published presentation now has a few problems.  What I'm going to do is go back to the Tutorial 101 section and go through it again.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Melanie,

Glad to hear you were able to make some progress with this.

Sorry hear about the issues after publishing, can you tell me what they are? If you're viewing the published presentation locally, that may actually be the cause.

Before you try reworking it, or going through the tutorials again, you may want to check out this information:

If you view a published Presenter '09 presentation on your local hard drive or send it to someone else to view on their local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail.
To properly test your published content and share it with others, upload it to the environment for which it was published. Please review the following article for details:
Thanks! :)
