Studio '13 to Scorm Cloud

Nov 09, 2015

Hi.

I have created a course which I am trying to publish to Scorm Cloud. I am saving it as LMS, Scorm 1.2.

I have the tracking set to course is completed when all slides are viewed and have tried publishing as both passed/incomplete and completed/incomplete.

However, the tracking on Scorm Cloud is not showing when the course has been completed. Also, is there a way so that the reportage in Scorm Cloud shows each slide which has been viewed by a student?

Am I missing something when publishing as to setting what should be learner objectives? The full course I am going to be uploading contains several small quizzes as well as slides and engage interactions, ideally I would like the reporting to show the results/answers that the students give to each quiz question and also track their progess as to what slide they are up to viewing.

Any help is much appreciated. These may sound like simple questions but to someone who has never published to ScormCloud before, I feel like I've spent all day going in circles and frazzling my brain trying to figure things out!

Thanks

Kate

Hi Kate!

Articulate Presenter lets you track a course either by the number of slides viewed or by a single quiz. Tracking both measurements for the same course isn't supported. Similarly, tracking multiple quizzes in the same course isn't supported. However, you may be able to track multiple measurements for a course using one of the unsupported methods in this article.

You mention that you are tracking by number of slides viewed, but it is not showing as completed? Do you know if all of the slides were visited?

Being able to report on which slides the user viewed is not a feature, but you are welcome to share your thoughts with our product development team here.

HI Leslie

Thanks for your reply. I had thought a workaround to the tracking both quizzes and slides might be to track by number of slides and put a completion slide after the final quiz (which has a passing grade), this way a student would not be able to see all slides and until they had passed the final quiz. Would this method work? If so, what tracking method would you recommend I publish with - complete/incomplete, passed/failed etc?

I know that all slides were viewed and then I closed the browser window, which I have read on other threads could effect ScormCloud marking it as complete. However in the reporting on ScormCloud it is not showing any details about the progression in the course, or how the questions were answered in the quiz.

I have also tried uploading to ScormCloud with the settings as tracking when the last quiz has been completed which did show more detail about how questions were answered and did show that the course had been completed.

Thanks again

Kate

Hi Christie

I have read through and also gotten support from ScormCloud about the reporting and am getting better results when publishing in Scorm 2004.

However, I am still not able to get the reporting as detailed I need. Their suggestion was this  - 'as far as seeing something like percentage complete you may need to add the code into the course if Studio doesn't get/set cmi.progress_measure. That would be more of a question for them.'

I have tried again tracking both by slides completed and by the single quiz, if I track by slides completed I get no reporting as to the stage they are up to and when tracking by quiz it only tracks the results in that quiz, rather than showing the results of all the quizzes in the course, so I think I definitely am going to need some kind of coding if there is any you can suggest?

I was also hoping to be able to display an entire course progress bar in the player, is there anything I can do to create this other than have a different instructor picture for each slide (this course consists of over 700 slides so making that happen would be pretty time consuming!)

As someone who is pretty new to eLearning authoring and not much experience with coding/java script I was hoping this is something you may be able to help with!

The organisation I work with only consists of a small staff so I don't have an IT department to turn to, so am doing the best I can using these superb support forums and with the help of the staff of Articulate and ScormCloud.....and of course everyone's favourite - YouTube!

Many thanks for your help 😀

Hi Katie!

I would advise that you track by your quiz results. This is the only way you are going to get reporting on the questions as you mention needing.

As far as the slides viewed, I would recommend adjusting the navigation method in your course. This will allow you to be sure that the learners viewed the slides.

The navigation method for Presenter courses defaults to Free—meaning learners can view slides in any order. If you're building a linear course and want learners to move through it in order, switch to Restricted or Lockednavigation. This prevents learners from using the menu to jump to other slides. Here's how to switch and how to decide which navigation method to choose:

  1. Click the gear icon (the Additional Options button) below the menu.
  2. When the Menu Options window appears, use the Navigation Restriction drop-down to choose one of the following:Click OK when you're done.
    • Free: This lets learners click slide titles in the menu to navigate to any part of the course at any time. They can view slides in any order.
    • Restricted: This means learners can view the current slide and any slide they previously viewed, but they can't use the menu to jump ahead or skip over slides.
    • Locked: This means learners can only view slides in the order you've designed. They can't use the menu to jump ahead or skip over slides, nor can they use it to go back to any previously viewed slides.
  3. Click OK when done

Tip: If you just want to lock specific slides in your course so learners are required to view those slides in their entirety—regardless of the navigation method you chose for your overall course—you can do that in the Slide Properties manager.

The full tutorial can be found here.

Hi Leslie

I have the navigation set to restricted already, thank you for that.

The course has several quizzes in it, when I set it to track by quiz results it only shows me the answers that have been given for the one quiz which can be used as the completion. My tracking is more important really that I am able to monitor when a user has started a course and then the progression they have made.

This is why Scorm Cloud suggested that I may need to add some code?

Thanks

Kate
