Suggestions for unlocking sections and creating certificates

Oct 08, 2015

First, let me note I don't speak programming, so I may have to hire one of you :)

I have a very large class, and I need it broken down into sections.  In other words, a user goes through a section and when it's complete it unlocks another section.  Does Articulate Player allow this, and if so how?

Also, it's so unfortunate Articulate does not offer a tool for creating a professional looking certificate.  What do you use to create them?

Hi Bradley!

The navigation method for Presenter courses defaults to Free—meaning learners can view slides in any order. If you're building a linear course and want learners to move through it in order, switch to Restricted or Lockednavigation. This prevents learners from using the menu to jump to other slides. Here's how to switch and how to decide which navigation method to choose:

  1. Click the gear icon (the Additional Options button) below the menu.
  2. When the Menu Options window appears, use the Navigation Restrictiondrop-down to choose one of the following:
    • Free: This lets learners click slide titles in the menu to navigate to any part of the course at any time. They can view slides in any order.
    • Restricted: This means learners can view the current slide and any slide they previously viewed, but they can't use the menu to jump ahead or skip over slides.
    • Locked: This means learners can only view slides in the order you've designed. They can't use the menu to jump ahead or skip over slides, nor can they use it to go back to any previously viewed slides.
  3. Click OK when you're done.

Tip: If you just want to lock specific slides in your course so learners are required to view those slides in their entirety—regardless of the navigation method you chose for your overall course—you can do that in the Slide Properties manager.

You can read more about customizing the player menu here.

I'll let the community chime in on Certificate recommendations.

Yes, I use that feature.  But, my class is VERY large so I have to break it into sections so the user computer and flash does not crash, and progress is saved.  For example, my class is Part 1 (5 sections) then part 2 (5 sections). What I need is for the user to be able to complete a section and when it is done, the next section unlocks.  It is doing that currently because I was lucky enough to have Dave do the coding...but that option may not be available to me anymore.  So, I was hoping with all the upgrades maybe there is such an option now.

That article appears to be about Storyline.  I have Studio 13, would it be the same for both?

What I have are sections (content items), for example 50 slides with each page read aloud, and videos embedded.   When it was all one course folks had problems with memory, crashes, progressed not being saved, etc.  So we broke the class down into smaller chunks.  When a section (content item according to Articulate Online) is completed the next section (content item) is unlocked.   Does that help clarify my dilemma?
