Syncing Animation & Ribbon Errors

Apr 04, 2011

Several of my team mates are having issues syncing animations – Presenter keeps crashing and they keep losing the ribbon.  While several others, including me, are not having any issues.  We each have our own desk computer and we have one shared recording computer.

When I attempted to open one of their projects on my computer, I immediately I got the ribbon error.  Instead of choosing either option in the dialogue box, I went to Task Manager and exited out the program.  When I re-opened the project, I had no problems and didn’t get the error and I didn’t lose the Ribbon.

Our IT department thought it was a problem with Office 2007 (we’re running Windows XP).  They asked me to see if I could recreate my co-workers’ problems using my files on the recording computer.  I was able to two complete projects.  I used the computer for over 25 minutes and had no issues.  When my co-worker brought up the original project (again using the recording computer) it crashed again after only 2 or 3 slides.

We have a known problem with the MS Office PPT Patch KB982158.  It has been removed (and blocked) from my computer, as well as the computer we use for recording.  We hoped that this was cause of the problem, but now that doesn’t appear to the case.

There are no “illegal” characters in the file name.

We’re perplexed as to why the syncing issues are happening to some but not to others.  (5 people are having problems and 5 are not.)

Our IT Department is going to compare my computer profile to that of my coworkers, just to make sure we are all running the same configuration.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi Penny & welcome to Heroes,

If you are experiencing unexpected issues with your animations, annotations, the audio editor, or others, the issues may be related to your Regional Language Settings in a non-English Windows environment. Alternatively, if you do have an English installation of Windows, your Regional Language Settings could still be incorrect in rare instances.

For more information on how to correct your Regional Language Settings, please see the KB article in the link below:

http://www.articulate.com/support/presenter09/kb/?p=1321

If you're still having issues, make sure that Visual Basic for Applications is installed:

https://player.vimeo.com/video/145574319

Finally, if you're still having issues, please follow the steps below to generate for us a trace log of what's happening:

1) Download, extract, and double-click the below trace tool (keep the window open):

http://www.articulate.com/support/downloads/APTrace.zip

2) Launch PowerPoint. PowerPoint should be launched only after the trace window is open.

3) Follow the steps you normally take to reproduce your issue.

4) When you are finished reproducing your issue, in the Trace window copy the text and paste it into Notepad.

5) Attach the log file to your reply to us for review.

Hi Brian!

I need your help in this area as well. Presenter has also been crashing on every time I try to go in and Synch my animations. It has started to crash more steadily now. I reboot and try again, and it still does not work. I went ahead and did the steps you posted above. Here is the log report generated by the APTrace file.

At this point it's become extremely frustrating to get work done, so any insight on this will be helpful!

Hi again, Karen!

I see Gren offered you the following advice and was curious to know if you got things working:

"Can you try creating a new Presenter file, save this to your local drive such as your desktop or C:/test directory, add a few animations, then try to sync this in Presenter. See if the same issue occurs in this new file.

You can also refer to the article below for troubleshooting the issue further, once you have determined if the issue only occurs in specific files, or to any Presenter file."
