Text in first slide disappears after prevewing/publishing

This has happened multiple times and it makes no sense: I have several text boxes on my first slide and after I preview the slide or publish, one or both text boxes simply disappear. Everything shows up fine in the published version, but the CBT gets modified in PowerPoint/Articulate.  At first I thought it was because I those boxes had animation, but I removed the animation and it is still happening.

I've re-published this CBT multiple times -- is this a glitch from publishing too much?
