Timeline Engage does not properly display in Presenter

Dec 14, 2012

We normally insert our Engage files into Presenter as a Flash.  Most often this works just fine.  However, this time the Timeline Engage will not display properly in Presenter.  Using Two Periods and eight events.  One period is split and cut off.  I can only see it all when I tab at the top.  I have recreated it a few times with the same results.  Thanks for your help.

Good morning Charlene,

Sorry to hear about the trouble with the timeline. First, make sure that your Engage Interaction and other project files are located on your hard drive. Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior. You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate). Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names.

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

Also, are you running Kaspersky Anti-Virus, by any chance? If so, you might want to look at this knowledge base article. Another article you may want to look at can be found here

If you have checked all the information above and still experience problems with the Engage timeline, please let me know!

Thanks Charlene,

Christine

Hi Christine.  Thanks for your reply, as well as suggestions.  Yes, all files are on my local drive and I have simplified file names.  I do not think I have the Kaspersky Anti-Virus running on my PC.  Using McAfee.   I have two engage files in this module.  The first one works just fine.  It is the Timeline that does not want to display properly.  As a reminder, when I insert the Engage right into Articulate, it does display perfectly.  However, when I try to insert this Engage as a Flash, it does not display.  This is a method that we often use and most always works fine.  The first Engage inserted as a Flash Object displays.  It is just the Timeline that I cannot get to work.

I thought that maybe it was the Adobe Flash, but if the first Engage is working well, I am inclined to think that it has something to do with the Timeline template.  Thoughts?

Thanks again --

Hi Charlene,

Thanks for getting back to me! What happens if you double-click the timeline file in your swf folder? Will Engage launch and load it's content properly from the folder?

Here's a video that David Anderson made on inserting multiple Engage interactions as Flash movies in Presenter. You may want to take a look, just to make sure none of the steps were missed (renaming the interactions, etc.).

Thanks!

Christine,

Thanks for your suggestions and I did view the Screenr.  The good news there is that I do use the suggested practice when inserting multiple Engage files as flash objects.  I continue to have the same challenge.  One Engage displays correctly, but the Timeline Engage will not display correctly (as a flash object).   I tested this again by removing the other Engage and just inserting the Timeline as a Flash Object and the results were the same.  I have to believe this is about the Timeline template.  Thanks for your ongoing suggestions, though.
