Total and elapsed time

Dec 11, 2013

When previewing my presentation, I can see the total and elapsed time next to the presentation's title, but when I publish the presentation, the time is no longer there. I am sure that I checked off the "total and elapsed time" box in the player options. Are there any other reasons it would disappear when published?

Thanks,

Melissa

Hi Melissa,

How are you viewing the published project? Try to make sure that you're not viewing the published output files locally.

If you view a published Studio '13  or '09 presentation on your local hard drive or send it to someone else to view on their local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail.

To properly test your published content and share it with others, upload it to the environment for which it was published. Please review the article below for more information:

Tips for Managing Project Files

If you try uploading the project to a web server or LMS and still have this issue, please try creating a new project and see if the time is still missing.

Also, please let me know if you're using Studio '09 or '13.

Thanks!

Melissa,

I would recommend testing it on a server, if possible. You could use Tempshare, if you don't have access to your own - or you can even use the 30 day free trial for Articulate Online. That should give you enough time to test the project.

If you upload to a server and still don't see the time displayed on your project, are you able to share it here? You'll need to create a presenter package and attach it to this thread. Keep in mind that if the file is too large, it may not post here.

Hi Melissa,

That's great news - I'm happy to hear that it's working for you and that the quality has improved :)

As I mentioned earlier, viewing published project files locally will have an impact on how the course functions and sometimes how it appears. It's best to view the project where you intend to host it when it's complete.

How do you plan on distributing your projects? If you plan on having them in a website, you'll want to publish for "Web" and post to a web server. If you need tracking and scoring for your courses, this typeof functionality isn't built-in to the software and the courses. The data isthere and is sent out by the course, but the course needs to be hosted on aserver that supports that type of functionality and data.

Forexample, say you just want to upload your course to a web site and don’t needany reporting or tracking capabilities. You could publish the course for “Web” andupload to a normal web server. Now, if you do need to be able to track andreport on your courses, you’ll want to use a Learning Management System (LMS).

Do you haveaccess to an LMS or have you used this type of system in the past? If not, youmight want to check out ArticulateOnline. This is our hosting, tracking and reporting service. ArticulateOnline only supports content created in Articulate software (Storyline andStudio) and offers quite a few features that may help with your projects. Also,Articulate Online is available for a free 30 day trial – I would recommendtrying it out and see if this is something that might work for you.

If you need to view the project locally, you could try publishing for "CD" instead. Just keep in mind that to view your course properly, you'll want to run the .EXE file that's included in the output.

I hope this helps!
