Tracking when re-open a "completed" course

Jun 12, 2012

Hi all!

I have a little course with the following structure: 10 slides + 2 process engage + 1 quizz (for the version Studio 09)

Users can leave the course and view the slides at any time and order and the tracking for the LMS is PASSED/FAILED. I also have the resume option activated.

The problem is: I can complete and pass the course one time, but if I reopen the course, go to the resume and without do anything close the window, the LMS tracking change again at state INCOMPLETE, despite being at the last slide ...

How can solve this problem and maintain the PASSED/FAILED state after reopen the course without doing again the quizz?

Thanks in advance,

Raquel

Hi Justin,

Thanks for your reply. Before write in Heroes I was reading other threads looking for the same problem, and trying to find some solution.

After activate the debugger, we could see the following behaviour which we thought that wasn't normal: Just at the moment of launch the course (before decide go to the resume or not), the SCORM variable strResult change from PASSED to INCOMPLETE.  This fact, isn't always, is just when there is a quizz in the course.

We test some scenarios and just find this trouble when there were an evaluation.

What are we doing wrong? It can be a Quizzmaker bug?

Thank you very much.

I think your problem is that your LMS is not loading a completed course in review mode.  In review mode you should not be able to update the grade.

we have this problem with Moodle and luckily there is a force complete option in moodle that fixes this.

It may be that your lms is set to report last grade, and you may have a setting for highest grade which may help.

The LMS should keep a transcript of each instance of the course. So if the learner completes it at least once, that should show up in the LMS on the transcript for that learner. The current tracking information is for the current instance. We decided that the transcript is the final arbiter for audit findings. So if someone says "Joe didn't complete the security awareness course." we can show them the transcript and show that he had.

I get this all the time as the lead and updater for many compliance courses as I'm testing in the LMS before full roll out. So i usually have more than one complete and more than one failed/incomplete per course in the LMS.

Sorry for opening an old thread, but I'm having the same issue today.  I pass a course, the score is set to 100 and lesson_status to 'completed'.  Then I relaunch the course (which, granted, may not be 'normal' user behaviour), get a question wrong and the score is set to 0 and lesson_status to 'incomplete'.

There's no option in the Reporting and Tracking settings to maintain a previously complete status.

I'm not using Presenter or Quizmaker, just Storyline.

Cheers,

Jim
