Tracking with SCORM 1.2 and OLM
May 27, 2011
Hi team!
I've got a technical query that I'm hoping someone out there can help me with. We have a client that is using the OLM (Oracle Learning Management) system and asked us to develop a course for them. We have done that and published it using Articulate (of course) for SCORM 1.2 as per their requirements. We set the tracking for "track by number of slides viewed" and required that all slides be viewed before the course is marked as completed.
However, there seems to be a problem on the client's side with getting the tracking to work. Apologies in advance for the info dump, but here's what they say:
To test the course, I've uploaded it to SCORM Cloud and run it from there to see if the tracking error is on our side or the client's. To be honest, from what I saw there, I still wasn't sure whether it was working or not - SCORM and I are just getting acquainted. When I exited the course early, SCORM Cloud marked it as incomplete, but gave no further indication of progress.
So, after this long drawn out explanation, does anybody have a clue about where the problem lies?
Appreciate the help!
- Paul

Hi Paul
Sorry never used OLM, but looking at your post, you uploaded the course, and went through all the slides then noticed a problem with tracking, sorted the problem then restarted the course and only did a few slides
Is there any chance that the first attempt was recorded correctly once you sorted the problem? This would be why your course shows as complete

Hi Paul,
Since you're new to the world of SCORM, I'd recommend reading this article:

Hi Phil,
Thanks for the response and for pointing that out. That smaller text in my post was from the client (I copied it out of an email), so I'll ask them about that. Let's hope it's that simple.
The impression that I got is that they viewed some or most of the slides, saw that the playback was working and then exited, but you may well be right.

Hi
I have a similar issues also but AICC, I have developed a course using storyline but the course is not tracking status properly. When a Learner who is yet to finish the course decided to exit so he can continue at another time, the status shows ‘failed’ instead of ‘incomplete’, the learner is yet to finish the course and obviously has not gotten to the assessment section because the course was set to track with assessment and the tracking status is passed/failed. I have changes the tracking status to complete/incomplete and I still get the same result.
I need help on this.
Thanks.
Hi Lanre!
For Posterity...
When you create the Learning Object in OLM, there is a pull down for "Tracking Type."
The default is "Automatic," which sounds nice, but this records the module as "Completed" once the learner begins the module. Changing it to SCORM will change the completion requirement to the SCORM module.
Thanks for sharing Kurt! Hopefully other who use OLM can use this advice :)
Welcome to the community.
Hi Thompson,
I am facing similar Issue.
If I put 'Tracking type is Automatic ': Any employee Just attend course 'Status' is showing 'Completed' (Even though employee not completed full cycle of course).
If I put 'Tracking type is Scorm 1.2: Employee completed full course with Quiz passed ,however course is still showing "incomplete status".
Could you please help me on this
Hi Bhanu!
Not sure if Kurt is still subscribed here, but you are welcome to reach out to the user directly via the 'Contact Me' option on the user profile.
Are you able to replicate the issue you are having within SCORM Cloud or is it limited to your LMS? If you are able to replicate, we would want to take a look at your Articulate Package.
