Training stops working over time

Mar 18, 2013

We are discovering that our training modules that have been posted to our online training site for 6+ months have stopped working; they'll only play to a certain slide and then not allow the student to continue.  We've had to re-post the trainings to get them to play through to the end.  Does anyone else experience this?

Hi Amber,

It may be related to a caching issue. If you run into this problem again, does clearing your browser cache fix the problem?

I know you mentioned it took a while for this to become an issue, and you've already uploaded the presentation again, but this may be something to try if the issue occurs again.

If you are able to reproduce this and clearing the browser cache doesn't help, we'd be happy to take a look at what's happening.

Thanks!

There's a pretty detailed support article on the Microsoft site you may want to check out:

Microsoft Support - How to Delete the Contents of the Temporary Internet Files Folder

You should also be able to find an option to clear the browser cache and history while you have the browser open, by going to "Options" from the menu in Internet Explorer. It may take some looking around to find this, as different versions may display the menu differently. For example, I'm using IE 10 and I can access the options from the small "cogwheel" on the right-hand side of the browser.

In IE 10, and I believe most versions, you should be able to find this option under the "General" tab of the Internet Options window.

Another thing you may want to try - if you experience this issue with the course again, try viewing it in a different browser and see if you notice any difference.

Here's some alternative browsers you can use (I recommend Google Chrome, but it's always helpful to have all three for testing):

Google Chrome

Mozilla Firefox

If you have any questions, just let me know.

Thanks Amber

Christine
