Unable to insert quiz
Feb 20, 2012
Hi,
I have been working with a course for quite awhile (editing, publishing etc.) and suddenly, when I tried to publish it again I got the following message:
"Unable to insert the selected quiz. If the quiz is already open in Articulate Quizmaker, please close the quiz and reinsert it."
The quiz was not opened, but I went ahead and deleted it from the course, then tried to re-insert it. I got the same message when attempting to reinsert. Then I tried the following separate solutions, but still received the same message:
- Rebooted the computer
- Removed all other instances of the quiz in old folders
- Renamed the quiz
- Recreated the quiz from another template.
Any suggestions? I can send the package if you need it. Thanks!

Sorry for the trouble, Jennifer. Go ahead and submit your case so our support team can work with you to figure out what's going on. Please create an Articulate Presenter package, then upload the zip file to our server. You can review how to do this here:
Send to Articulate Presenter Package – Articulate Presenter ’09 Help
Upload the resulting zip file from your computer to our server using this upload form:
Articulate Support - Upload Your Files for Review
Please be sure to include a description of your issue, your version of PowerPoint, version of Windows and version of Presenter '09, which you can find in Help and Support -> About Articulate Presenter. Please also include the URL for this thread so I can follow up with you personally in the forums. And feel free to come back and leave your case number here so I can keep a close eye on it. Thanks!
Hello,
Did you discover what caused this? I've experienced the same issue with a quiz today. I worked around it by importing the questions into a brand new Quizmaker file, but just wondering if it was known what causes the issue so I can try to avoid it happening again.
Thanks!
Hi Louise!
Doesn't look like we ever received the files to look into it further. If you'd like to submit your own case, please feel free to do so here, and someone will contact you shortly. Thanks!
Hi Peter,
Sorry for the delay in my response... I just uploaded the files and submitted a case. Thanks!
Jennifer
Thanks, Jennifer! We got it, and someone will be contacting you shortly.
Hi Peter,
The issue has been resolved, but it's still a mystery
When I first had the problem, I created a new quiz file and imported the questions into it, but got the same error message. Vira in Articulate Support did the same thing (created a new quiz file) and her file worked for me. I'm not sure how her new file was any different from mine. But at least it's working now - thanks!
Ok, YUCK! I'm having the same problem. I created a quiz in Quizmaker, went to insert it in my PPT and got the message above. I tried to rename the quiz, the system wouldn't let me. it said the file is open in AP6? I don't have the file open, I have rebooted and tried again. Not sure what AP6 is or where it's located, it's like it's looking at cached information or something? I hate to recreate the quiz it's 20 questions even if I can import them. I'm afraid if I import them te new quiz could somehow inherit the same issue...Any ideas?
Hi Carla,
Are you still unable to rename the file after restarting? If so, are you able to post the .QUIZ file here? I'd be happy to take a look at the file on my end and see if I'm able to rename/open it.
If you'd like to keep the file private, you're welcome to share it with our support team.
Thanks!
Hi Christine,
Usually, I get an email when someone replies to a post but didn't this time. So glad I checked! Still not able to change the name or insert the quiz. Attached the file...I know it's user error of some sort! I used the paper clip to attach the file, not sure if it was successful...I'll check back later.
Thanks!
Hi Carla!
Thank you very much for the file! :)
I was able to rename when saving and the quiz opened successfully for me in Quizmaker.
Unfortunately, however, I was not able to import the file into Presenter - I received the same error message.
There is some good news, though! I decided to try creating a new Quizmaker file by choosing "Create New" in Presenter. In the new Quizmaker file, I was able to import the questions from the original quiz and it successfully imported into a new Presenter slide.
On another good note - that new file actually imported successfully on its own by choosing the "Use Existing" option.
So, it looks like it may have been an issue with the original file itself.
Can you take a look at the attached file and let me know if it works for you, please?
Thanks!
It worked! WOOHOO! So I can rename it, select properties so I can customize the pass/fail result pages, cjhane te passing percent etc then re-insert it, correct?
Hi Carla,
Awesome! Glad to hear it's working for you :D
Not quite clear on your last question there, though - are you just wanting to modify the pass/fail slides? Yes, you should be able to do that for the questions in the quiz. If you have trouble with this, just let me know!
Thanks!
Christine
