Unable to Preview/Publish 16:9 (widescreen) PPT ?

Jun 20, 2014

I've previewed and published 4x3 ppt without issue numerous time on my system (see specs below), however, I'm having issues with a 16:9 (widescreen) presentation. My version of Presenter supposedly supports 16:9 output (http://community.articulate.com/tutorials/products/choosing-a-presentation-size.aspx), but, as I said, I have been unable to output a native 16:9 presentation.

Presenter Version: 2013 (as part of full Studio)

OS: Windows 8.1 Pro w/ Media Center

Processor: AMD A6-5200 APU w/ Radeon HD Graphics 2.00GHz

Installed Memory (RAM): 8.00 GB (7.45GB usable)

System Type: 64 Bit OS, x64-based processor

Pen and touch: None

A picture of the error I get is attached.

Thanks ahead of time for any thoughts or suggestions.

Hi Adam,

Thanks for the helpful details and for the screenshot.

Are you able to reproduce this in a brand new file, with the same project size?

Also, are you able to share an Articulate Package of a project that results in this error, so I can test it on my end? You're welcome to share the original project file or a test file if you're able to reproduce this issue in a new file. Just keep in mind that the file max on the forums is 20MB, so if you upload something larger than that, you may run into some trouble.

Thanks!

Hello Christine and thank you for the prompt response.

--I don't quite follow your first question, "Are you able to reproduce this in a brand new file, with the same project size?"

--I am able to create an Articulate Package, the 46mb .zip can be downloaded here (let me know if you have issues): https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/31974289/CBA%207%20Smith%20Farm%20to%20Project_package.zip

The only other thing I can think of is that there might be an issue with the embedded video; though I've included videos of the same format in other Presenter packages without issue.

Thank you.

Hi Adam,

Thanks for sharing your project file!

I was able to preview the first slide successfully, but I noticed when I attempted to preview the entire project it crashes around slide 3.

I then attempted to preview each slide one by one. The following are the "problem slides":

Slide 3, slide 4, slide 8, slide 9, slide 12 and slide 13

These slides preview correctly:

1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 14 and 15.

Noted that the slide size is currently set to 16:9 (Widescreen). Switched to Standard (4:3) and previewed slides 3, 4, 8, 9, 12 and 13.

I still experienced the crashing.

I imported the slides into a new presentation file using this method, but still experienced the crashing.

I began with slide 3 for additional testing. First I removed all of the content from the slide and attempted to preview. The slide, still displaying the Master, previewed successfully. I placed the content back and removed one item at a time from the slide.

It looks like the issue was specific to this text box:

●Now: farm-level cashflow

●Goal: project-level cashflow

●Why? Decision criteria

Removing that text box allows the slide to preview properly. However, copying the text box and deleting the original doesn't fix the problem. I copied and pasted the text into Notepad (to clear the formatting) and inserting that into a new textbox into PowerPoint does seem to fix the problem. I reapplied the bullets and it looks good. I tried this in the original file and it works well.

I did the same for slides 4, 8, 9, 12 and 13. After doing so, I'm able to successfully preview the entire original project.

I was also able to publish the project:

Testing For Adam

Now, I did notice when I was creating a package for you, that the file path was for the K: drive.

Please make sure that you're working with local project files:

·         Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.

·         You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).

·         Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names (this includes spaces and underscores).

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

The file's too large to share here, but you're welcome to download it from the link below:

Please try this on your end and let me know if you still have trouble previewing or publishing.

Best,

Christine
