Understanding the Scan Logs in the Articulate 9 IE10/11 updater

Apr 09, 2014

Hi All!

We love the fact that Articulate made the IE10/IE11 updater available! and would greatly appreciate some guidance.

We need to run the Updater as currently any user who attempts to play previously published SCORM 1.2 content created with Articulate 9 has the following issues:

  • Exit navigation doesn't work.
  • Suspend data doesn't record.
  • Content will not complete.

We are attempting to update approximately 130 of these modules on our LMS using the IE10/IE11 updater tool.  There are 6 modules on this server that were created with Presenter 5.2.  In our tests, using the updater tool on these 5.2 modules breaks the functionality for some browsers, so we would prefer not to update the files in these modules.

When we generate the Scan Log using the Updater:

  • The files associated with the six 5.2 modules display as "Unrecognized."  Does this mean they will be skipped by the Updater or should we definitely remove them from the list of files to be updated?
  • The files associated with a number of know Articulate 9 modules display as "File OK."   These modules behave the above behavior in IE11 in the same way as the other modules that are listed as "Needs Update."  What does "File OK" mean in this context?  Will these files be skipped by the updater or updated anyway?

What's strange is that when we ran a test, all the files seem (based on behavior) to have been updated regardless of "unrecognized" or "File OK" status.  Is it safest to assume that unless removed from the list, that ll the files will be updated?

Thanks very much for any guidance you can provide!

Hi David and welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

The updater  scans content and updates the necessary files to correct a known issue where content viewed in Internet Explorer 10 or 11 wouldn't track properly in a learning management system.

It will only look at Studio '09 content, but this update did not address the issue with the exit navigation issue.

I will reach out to see if you can get specific answers for your bolded questions.

Thanks for the quick response, Leslie!  And thanks for clarifying the issue with the Exit button.  I had mistakenly thought that both the tracking and exit navigation were addressed with this fix, so this new knowledge will definitely help with crafting our communications.

Ahhh, IE11... what a joy.

Our major concerns are (1) whether there is any risk to non Studio '09 content when running the updates and (2) should we be concerned that content which is not (so far as we know) updated is showing up as "File OK."

Thanks again for looking into this!

David

I'm late to the game on the IE v 11.0 updater, but employees are starting to use v11.0 and it's time to update.  I used the updater on my files, republished one of them and uploaded it to my LMS, but I'm still receiving an error to close IE when trying to exit the course.  Has this part of the issue been addressed yet?  Thanks!
