Updating and republish one slide

Mar 15, 2011

In previous versions of Presenter I have been able to update one slide, save as a separate PPT,publish the one slideand then swap out the swf file in the data folder.

I have to update a course published in version 5 and when I republish inArticulate '09,the swf file is not the same size as inearlier version (content is cut-off). Republishing the entirecourse would be very time consuming since I have multiple PPT'sof the same course to update with only the one slide.

We have always moved entire republished lessons to our ULN when making updates but are questioning if that is necessary. Currently we would like to move onlyone updated .swf file toa lessonsdata folder on the ULN but have never tested that process and do not know if we will run into any unknown issues or if that is even recommended. Presenter '09 is the only version of Articulate that we have ever used to publish lessons. Is there anything that we should be aware of before trying this approach?

Brian,

Our LMS is trying to force our team to run two tests at each of our domiciles every time we post an updated lesson. Our LMS teaminsists on seeing the updated lesson as a new lesson that requires full testing. That becomes a logistical nightmare. They will bypass almost all of the testing if all we do is post updated SWF files. But you recommended not doing this. Our LMS team does this for other divisions in our company but we are staying away from doing it based on your recommendation. Can you possibly provide more details on this?

When we update lessons built using the Flash templates that we own all we have to do is upload the SWF files when updates are made. Isn't there any way ofdoing this safely using files created by Articulate.

Hi Oliver,

Presenter 09 publishes a series of files which allows the presentation to progressively download elements that it needs to enable faster download and playback times. Thus, it's not possible to guarantee that files that you selectively replace on the server will update the presentation.

I would recommend contacting your LMS team to see if they can make exceptions for certain courses that you're updating.
