Urgent Flash Help!

Dec 04, 2013

Thank you in advance for reading this!

My situation is that I have a flash movies embedded in my PowerPoint, which is just one slide - Just embedded in PPT so that I can run it in my LMS.  I have 14 such files, 1 PPT with one embedded Flash movie.  The problem is that it ends up being just too big.  The .flv files are too large, and then the entire PPT with the flv embedded is also too large.

OK, this is what I have do get to this point.  Please note I am very inexperienced with using video, and to figure this process out took me a week.

1) I recorded several multi hour WebEx sessions.  Since only parts of each session were relevant, I had to split out content, which you cannot do with WebEx

2) Then I downloaded each WebEx file, and converted them to windows player files.

3) I then used Encoder to slice out the sections I needed, and published those sections to .flv format so I can use it with Articulate

4) I then embedded the .flv file in Articulate, like I said, 1 file, 1 video.

So far so good - except now, the files are too large to use.

It took forever to use encoder to slide them out, and so now that I have them divided how they need to me, I want to try to slice these final .flv files into sub-sections so that they are usable.  I have tried Encoder, Articulate and Captivate, but none of these seem to work.

Any help or ideas for me?

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Hi there Dawn,

When you say they're too large to function, how so, exactly? Are they not loading properly when you upload them to a web server, or are they not inserting properly into the project itself?

Other than reducing the quality of the project, I'm not sure how you can cut it down other than editing the video - which you've already done :)

You could try splitting them into different parts and have each part in a different slide, but that won't really adjust the project file size. You could break up the project and have different portions of the videos in different courses, but I'm not sure if that's something that would work for you.

Thank you Christine and Nick.

Christine, the files are like 80 - 150 MB, and I cannot even e-mail them for testing.

I have each flash video, some run for 15 minutes, some up to 45.  I was thinking if there is a way that I can take these files and split them up further, then I could use them.  So, since they are already flv files, I need a way to slice them up and save them as smaller files.  I hope this is making sense.

Nick, yes I am using Articulate Presenter 09.  I have no other option at this point.  I use Presenter, Captivate and Encoder to do my work.  Is there any way in those tools that I can slice up a flv file?

Thank you!
