Video Encoder Codec...

Jan 07, 2013

HELP! I am trying to merge videos together to insert them into a presentation and the error says something about the codec not being compatable. I followed all the steps and downloaded all the necessary codecs to have playback capability and the video is still not working correctly. After downloading GSpot I learned that the codec is avc1. Is this codec just not compatable no matter what I do or is there another step I can take? Thanks in advance!

Hi Amanda. Welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

Sorry to hear about the trouble you're having with this. Hopefully, we can take care of this so you'll be up and running soon. Unfortunately, though, I don't know the exact error you're receiving or what format the videos are.

Are the videos MP4, by any chance? If they are you may want to try using the methods below:

If you get a warning message when inserting an MP4 video that says "Unsupported Codec", the video will not play correctly in the published output.

The Flash Player only supports playback of MP4 videos encoded with the H.264 codec.

To correct this issue, do either of the following:

  • Encode the MP4 to FLV using Articulate Video Encoder '09.
  • Or, re-encode the MP4 movie using the H.264 codec.

If that doesn't resolve the problem, please take a look at this knowledge base article and install the codecs listed.

Let me know how it goes!

Thanks,

Christine

The video is an MP4. I tried publishing the video (is that the same as encoding it?) and the tried reopening it within Video Encoder and it won't find and open the FLV video. I have no idea how to re-encode the MP4. Thank you for the link to the article but I've already taken those steps. I can still edit the video but playback is disabled so I have no idea what I'm editing. Thank you for your help!

Hi Amanda,

If you'd like, we can take a closer look at the video and see what the problem may be. Please submit a support case with our tech team. Also, if you can, please share the case details with me (you're welcome to do so here, or in a private message) so I can follow the case progress and update this thread.

Thanks again, Amanda

If you really get stuck, and just want to re-encode the video, ive been using Any Video Encoder forever on Widows. Or MPEG Streamclip on the Mac (i dont like the pc version, but you might have better luck...im on a really old pc, so that might be the problem

There are others, but these have gotten the job done for me for years.

Hi Cindy! It should not have anything to do with using the trial version.  Can you give us some more details about the issue that you are having in particular and any troubleshooting that you have done. If you feel as if you have already done this, please feel free to submit a case to our support team for assistance as well. I would be happy to follow along with that as well if you need to do so.
