.wavs and .mp3s - again...

Feb 17, 2011

So...

I decided to be a good boy, and try recording to .wav, and importing the files en masse to my project. I usually create .mp3 files and use those, .wav just seems so....1980's.

Anyway,

All was going well, until I got to Engage.

I imported my first .wav, and got told that the file "...was unsupported or had a nasty bitrate", (or something like that). I do not remember, because I tried it again, and it worked.

Or so it appeared......Engage was playing a trick on me.

When I reviewed the interaction, it sounded as though I had taken a course in stuttering, and passed with honours.

When I converted everything to .mp3, sanity was restored, but my understanding of audio techniques once again slid down the snake of life and now sits on space #1 again.

When I save to .wav, my software says 44100, mono, 128kbps - my usual settings for .mp3.

So am I, once again, to take the "noodge of the day" award, or am I possibly doing something that I am unaware of?

Thanks

Bruce

Bruce,

Q. why can't you use Audacity? Do you get some sort of error when running it? I have used Audacity on Widows XP, Vista, and Win 7 with no issues and you can take wav files and convert them to MP3. There is also Audacity for Mac's OS9.

Audacity.

The main reason I do not use wav files is there size and quality. MP3's are far superior in quality and they don't take up as much room. If you need help troubleshooting Audacity let me know.

Thanks Laura, and yes, these are the settings I use.

As I said above, I do not use Audacity. When they did their last upgrade, I suffered all kinds of errors. I wanted to be in a position where I had licensed software, so I changed to NCH Wavepad SOund editor, which I am supremely happy with, (until tonight).

I have the ability to save as .mp3 with that, and think I am now all OK.

Thanks again.

Bruce
