Web object does not show in IE8

Mar 24, 2011

Dear all,

I am very new to the Articulate product, we just brought a copy of Studio Pro 09 not long ago.

We created a few 360 Panorama virtual tours for our labs, I would like to be able to show the VR using Presenter. I embed the Quick time VR into a html and insert it as a web object.  I can preview the VR no problem, and the published file plays nicely in FF, however, it does not work in IE8. The Quick time VR appears blank in the player. I wonder if anybody here came across the same problem at all?

Thanks

Christine

I'm having a similar issue. I'm using IE7. I'm also new to the product. Here's my issue:

I've added a Web Object to go to a secure website. Where the placeholder is the page shows as completely blank. If I publish the presentation and click on View Presentation, I'm able to see the site. But the user is not able to do so from the zip file I email to them.

I'm trying to route them to a secure website that requires a user id and password.

Another piece of information, when I was able to see the page from my 'View Presentation' button that showed after publishing it. I attempted to log-in and it did not allow me into the site. It just re-loaded the log-in page.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Christine & welcome to the forums,

It sounds like you're running into a security issue with Internet Explorer that prevents viewing content across multiple different security zones.  In your case, you're attempting to view a Quicktime file that is expected to be viewed from a web server.  Thus, actually publishing your content online & viewing it from a server will resolve the issue.  I would also recommend adjusting your Internet Explorer security settings back to their defaults to see if that helps.

Chandra - Your issue is likely the same as Christine's.

Hi Chandra,

After I browse a whole morning and tried different options, I finially got my VR woked. I am not sure if it is useful to you at all.

Here is my solution:

I simply uploaded the index.html I created to a live server, therefore,  the web adress I linked to is a proper URL rather than a local folder.

I noticed that the index.html (the place holder for my VR) works properly in the live site, however, it does not work properly when it is stored in a local folder as IE8 blocks the content eveytime,  (I am not sure why but it happened to me a few times) I can only view the VR after I agreed to view the "blocked content", and I think this caused the placeholder (player.html)blank.

I hope I explained the solution clearly, and hopes it might help you a little bit. However, this is quite difficult to explain in words.

Does anyone know why my web objects work in Preview mode but not when published? I tried to insert SWFs into my course but they loop very fast and do not allow the interaction I need for the user to select the option they desire. My developer created html files for each based on another workaround we found and while I can insert those as web objects they disappear when published.

I have five of these so they have to be in individual folders to use as this process will not work if you change the name of the file.

Can anyone assist me with this issue, please?

Brian - I found a workaround to this IE 8.0 security issue which allows you to test the files locally. You just need to add this code to the "clean" index.html file that you showed us how to create in another post. Copy this code below exactly as you see it and paste it at the top of your index.html file...
