Web Object (RB)

Feb 15, 2011

Hi everyone!

I have a question with regard to using a web object. I am publishing an online module to our LMS and within the module, I am linking to a .pdf document that is housed on our company Intranet server through the web object option in Articulate. My question is, if the document I am linking to changes, (the link stays the same, just the document is revised) will that change take place in the online course? So, when a user opens the module, they will always see the latest and greatest document?

Thanks

I have a related question: for the type of situation Rhona describes, what is the difference between using a web object and using the attachments tab with a hyperlink?  Would they both accomplish the same thing (i.e., link the user to a document and ensure the user always sees the most current version)?

Hi Sheila- if you use the Attachments feature of Presenter to attach a file from your local / network drive, it would yield different behavior because with it, you're pulling any attached files from their original location and including them in the published output.

If you use the link option, as you describe, though, the result would be the same as the Web Object approach because you're pointing to an external location (just like clicking on a link to see the latest version of any Web content), which can be updated outside the course.

The difference is simply in presentation: Do you want the file to load as a slide within the course (Web Object), or make the file accessible throughout the course via a drop-down menu / link (Attachments feature)?
