Web Object Seems to be Blank or Not Loading

Jan 10, 2014

Hello All,

I am using Studio '13 Presenter, and I have used a Web Object on a slide to load a video within a flash player.  When I publish and then "View Presentation", the slide works great.  When I publish and upload to my LMS or SCORM cloud, the page is blank (appears to be) and nothing seems to play.

I have tried many ideas that have been posted, but none seem to work.  It seems odd the preview works but not when posted to an LMS or SCORM Cloud. Backwards from most of the postings.

I have tried this on IE8 and Chrome and both have the same results.

Thank you for any help or suggestions.

Hi Shawn!

Are you able to share a link to the project from your LMS or the version you uploaded to SCORM Cloud?

Or are you able to share a package of the project?

If so, I'd be happy to take a look to see what's going on.

Out of curiosity - what's your default web browser? Just curious which browser opens when you click on "view presentation" when it functions properly locally. I figure it's either IE or Chrome, from what you described, but if it happens to be launching in another (Firefox, Safari, Maxthon), it'd be helpful to know.

Thanks!

Hello Christine,

Thank you for taking a look.  Slide one is a normal inserted video and slide two is the Web Object.  During the preview and on the LMS/SCORM Cloud, IE8 was the default.  Locally it is also IE8.

I tried to attach both the Articulate package and the SCORM package as well.  I hope they both made it.

Thank you again for the help...

Hi Shawn!

Thanks very much for the link and the files.

I tested the link in all of the browsers in my collection before I checked the file, and I was having the same issue.

I just opened the project file and I can see why the web object isn't loading. The path for the web object is for your personal hard drive - this is why it would work for you locally, but not after uploaded. Users from the web cannot access your C: drive for a file.

If you need to insert a page as a web object, you'll want to upload that page to a server, then insert the URL for that page as the web object. So, you need to have a live web object that you can access, that's already on the web.

As an example, I inserted this thread into the project and uploaded it to my server:

Example for Shawn

I did notice that you were directing it to an index.html file - that should be simple to upload to a server and link to it with a web object, it just cannot be on your local hard drive/using a local file path, etc.

I hope this helps! :)

Hello Christine,

Thank you for the information, but there is still an issue.  My PPT does point to the C: drive because this is where the orginal file was located when I first enbedded it.  After publishing for LMS, the course will look for the index.html and SWF files in the ...../WebObjects directory.  My screen shot from IEinspector when running the course from SCORM Cloud shows this as well.

In this case, the index.html is just a launcher for the flash player.  I will keep digging.....

Thanks again for the help.....
