When is there going to be a new version

Feb 10, 2012

Hi,

My co-workers and I have been discussing lately, options for our narrated lectures that will be able to be viewed on ALL mobile devices. I think you know where I'm going here.

Due to a certain very popular mobile device manufacturer being belligerent about Flash, trying to push it out of the market, we have several students who can't access their Articulate based lecture presentations on their tablets or phones. The number of students out there who want to be able to do so, is only going to increase over time, and our distance learning programs want us (the ID/IT staff) to be able to offer solutions to this issue.

Unfortunately Articulate Presenter 09 doesn't appear to be capable of being part of that solution.

So the question is: When will the next version of Articulate be coming out, and will it remain Flash based, or will you be going to a new platform such as HTML5, or any other platform that will play on Apple mobile devices?

i think the latest word is hopefully sometime in 2012.

yes, that didn't help me, either.

my advice is to take a look at Storyline when it becomes available - my guess is that you'll see that on the market faster than you'll see a new version of AP. I suggest Storyline as it is supposed to be able to export to HTML5 (though I don't have any information about the specs associated with this ability).

Thanks Craig,

I am not familiar with Storyline, and can't seem to find any relevant search results. Can you provide a link?

http://community.articulate.com/forums/p/1694/8945.aspx is about Articulate Storyline in general.

http://community.articulate.com/forums/t/686.aspx is specifically about Articulate Presenter on iPads

http://community.articulate.com/forums/t/686.aspx?PageIndex=5 is where that thread begins to talk about Articulate Storyline on iPads (literally shows it, actually).

Ok, now I'm really becoming frustrated trying to find information on Articulate Storyline, that actually lists it's features and capabilities. There doesn't seem to be anything out there. I'm reminded of the marketing for the movie "Willow" in which they didn't say ANYTHING about the movie until just before its release, they just said "Willow" in big flashy letters and told you nothing about it....that was very annoying.

Wow dude. you went wayyy back for that one

Did you read http://community.articulate.com/forums/p/1694/9102.aspx#9102 ? In this post, Arlyn answers (sort of) some questions about HTML5 and such. He also explains how to get in on the (currently ongoing) beta testing, which will allow you to test Storyline's specs and capabilities for yourself.

I am about as skeptical as they come in regards to Articulate's products and services - I have at times found myself annoyed by some of their practices regarding production and capabilities - but I am in the Storyline beta and I have to say that it's definitely changed my mind about what Articulate the company is trying to do. I suggest you try to get into the beta to see what's happening.
