When presenter package is published, content is blank

Jan 08, 2013

Hey there,

I'm trying to create content that includes a flash video and a quiz-maker quiz. I publish as normal but when I open up the content I can see the PowerPoint template, but the slides are blank. The powerpoint content, flash video and quizmaker content is not there.

When i select 'properties' for the flash video, the 'Movie' section's file path is 'C:\Program Files\Articulate\presenter\blank.swf', but the actual flash video lives in a different directory on my machine.

Any help with this would be great. If you need any more information please let me know.

Thanks,
Charlie

Hi Charlie. Welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

Are you able to see the content when previewing the presentation?

How are you viewing the published content? Are you uploading it to a web server or LMS, or are you viewing it locally?

If you're viewing it locally, you may run into some problems with certain content.

Here's some additional information about testing and properly viewing published content:

If you view a published Presenter '09 presentation on your local hard drive or send it to someone else to view on their local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail.
To properly test your published content and share it with others, upload it to the environment for which it was published. Please review the following article for details:

Hi Christine,

Thank you for your quick response.

The content appers correctly in preview mode.

At the moment I'm viewing the content locally. This is something I do regularly and it appears fine. I just checked and other previously published content seems to work fine.

I've uploaded to our SharePoint site and the content is still coming up blank.

Thanks,
Charlie

Hi Charlie,

Thanks for taking a look at that, I know it sound simple but sometimes it helps narrow down the issue. If you'd like, we can take a closer look at the files and see what's going on. Please include a Presenter Package, you'll be able to attach it on the second page of the form. Also, if you can, please share the details with me (you can do so in this thread, or by sending me a private message) so I can stay updated on the progress of the issue. I'll also come back and update this thread with any suggestions or solutions.

Thanks again, Charlie.

Hey Cristine,

I'm in correspondence with Jayem from your support team, but I thought I should update here also.

I've republished the content without the flash movie, and it works fine, so i'm guessing it is the flash movie causing the problem. As I metioned before the properties of the flash movie seem to point to the wrong place - 'C:\Program Files\Articulate\presenter\blank.swf', but the content is saved in a different location.

Thanks,
Charlie

I'm having a similar problem. I've published the course and it comes up fine if I go to the Open file, however the zip file only brings up a blank page that only says done at the bottom of the webpage. I need to be able to email the zip folder to my supervisor and I want to make sure it opens properly for her. This has been a constant problem for us. Can you tell me if I'm doing something wrong? Do you think it has to do with the folder's path, or do you think it would be an browser issue. All the add-ons are enabled. Neither of us have been able to view any of the zip folder on any of the computers we are using.

Thanks

Karen Whitford

When I publish the course to a folder in my documents and then go to the folder and select the player I get different results doing the same thing. Sometimes after i publish a course I can open the folder and select the player file and the course will play perfectly. Other times when I have published a course and select the player file I get an empty webpage with the word Done in the left bottom corner. Nothing is worse than having the client there with you to preview the course and you only get a black screen. What am I doing wrong?

The other issue I'm having is when I send the zip folder of the published course, the emails are not going through. Should you be able to attach the zip folder that Presenter makes when publishing a course and then the receiver be able to open the zip folder and view the course the same way I am trying to view the course in the above paragraph?

Hi Karen,

You'll want to showcase and test your published files by loading them within the intended environment, as testing the published files locally you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail.

This article describes some ways in which you can publish and share your content.

If you need to share your project files with another developer or transfer them to another computer:

  1. Create an Articulate Presenter Package.
  2. Then transfer the resulting ZIP file to another developer or another computer.
  3. Fully extract the ZIP file in its new location to modify or publish the presentation.
  4. If they publish the Presentation, they'll also want to test by uploading it to the intended environment.

Hi there Lindsay,

Did you upload the published output to your LMS to test it? I would also recommend testing it in SCORM Cloud, a easy and free tool for LMS testing. This will help determine if the issue lies within your LMS or the actual project file. If you are able to replicate, be sure to send the Articulate Package to us to take a peek!

Hi Lindsay,

Looks like your email signature came through when you replied via email! No worries, this Peek video will show you how to remove it.  Also when you respond via email any attachments won't be posted to the E-Learning Heroes discussion page, You'll want to visit this page and use the "Add Attachment" button at the bottom of the window.

Hi Lindsay,

Thanks! That was just what I needed. I published it here to my Articulate Online account. I'm not sure it's the right quiz or presentation though - as there was no MP4 file in this course. Only the first slide and then a set of quiz questions. There is audio, and all that plays normally.

Can you take a look and let me know what I'm missing? Or if it's the wrong course can you upload another course here for us?
