I've created a drop and drag quiz whereby the learner must sequence 5 objects along a line. It's quite a difficult quiz so I would like to add a hint box after ,say, 3 incorrect answers.
Interesting concept, and in Quizmaker there won't be a way to track that it's the 3rd attempt to determine when to show the hint. You could look at allowing for X number of attempts and then on an incorrect layer (which would advance the user to a new slide) offer the hint there. The next slide could be a duplicate of the original question for the user to attempt again? The challenge with that set up is both questions would have to be tracked by your results slide if you want to capture how the user answered as a part of the overall score and information reported to the LMS.
Perhaps others in the community have come up with more profound examples, so I hope they're able to share with you here!

In the end I added a hint box 50 secs into the quiz and a hint layer.
