argghhhh! articulate quit working in the middle of my work!

Mar 21, 2012

So I have been working for several hours on developing a test with a lot of video and photo images.  As I was working... I got the "something has caused articulate to stop working" warning and I had to OK a shut down of the program.  Is there ANY chance there is some place my work would be saved or do I have to start again???  The actual articulate file I was working in does not appear to have saved any of the work.

Hi Allie,

I'm afraid to say it, but if you hadn't saved your project in a long time, it's possible that your work was lost. This may not be helpful after the fact, but there are measures you can take to minimize the chance of it happening again in the future. Terribly sorry for the trouble. I'll continue to brainstorm on what may be done to recover some of your work.

It's true, as Poormina says, we've all been there. Funny story: years ago I was teaching Microsoft Word in a very buttoned-down professional setting...very fancy. Except, they'd set a temporary computer lab up with wires and extension cords all over the place.

Anyway, I was just teaching about saving your documents regularly when I tripped over a cord, there was a tiny little ball of fire and a poof of smoke, and all the computers shut down. Everyone was stunned (including me). And I said to my students, "Have you been saving your work regularly?" True story.

I think the keystroke I press most often as I'm working is CTRL+S!

Good luck, Allie,

Peter, should we put in a feature request for regular backup documents like, say, in Microsoft Word?

OK- so here was my big misunderstanding.  I select "save and close" after creating EACH of my questions in my quiz.  It seems reasonable for me to think that each question I create is "saved" then.  BUT... not the case.  Now I know!  I am a new user so I do understand this is part of the process.  Is there an "auto save" option in the program?  I probably won't need it now, but "saving" each question is a bit deceptive.  Maybe it should say "add the question to the quiz"  or change the function of that stroke to ACTUALLY save each time you select it?? I know it's semantics but....just a bit of feedback or food for thought.  Here is what I also learned... recreating those questions I lost the second time was much quicker!  I had learned a lot as I created those quiz items the first time and was able to do the same 4 hours of work in about 45mins  the second time.  This is oddly reassuring to me that I'll get faster at this!  Thanks again for all the heroes that chimed in here!!  I'll look into that "Team Viewer" Widya.  Thanks for the suggestion.
