Can learner's "text entry" answer stay onscreen during feedback?

May 19, 2016

Hello,

Is there a way to keep a learner's "text entry" answer onscreen as the feedback is shown (as the feedback layer appears)? I'm using the feedback to show a "model" good answer, but there are any number of possible correct answers. I want the user to be able to compare their answer to the model answer and assess whether they're similar. But when the feedback appears, their answer disappears, so they can't see their answer and the model answer at the same time.

Hi Jennifer,

I'm not sure if you're suing Quizmaker or Storyline. If you're using Storyline, I can definitely help you with this. Follow these steps:

1. Insert a Text Entry slide. This is where the learner will type their answer.

Insert > New Slide > Quizzing > Freeform > Text Entry

2. On the feedback layer, create a reference to the Text Entry box.

Insert > Reference > Select the appropriate text entry > OK

Tip: I would not use the standard Correct and Incorrect layers. I would create a custom feedback layer.

I have attached a sample file so you can see exactly how I built the interaction. I hope this helps!

Hi Jennifer!

Now's where I have to pop in and say that the option that Alyssa shared here does not work in Quizmaker '13 as there are no variables, etc like in Storyline.

You could utilize a Survey Essay type question and provide feedback per question and share the details in the feedback. Not as pretty as this example, but may assist.

Thanks Leslie. That is what I'm using, actually! The learner's essay answer still disappears though when my feedback appears. Am I doing something wrong or is that just the way it works? I was able to get my question to "stay" by copying and pasting it onto the feedback layer too, but the software won't allow me to copy and paste the essay answer box in the same manner (which makes sense of course... just wondering if there's another way).

Oh my. Well - user error. I had placed a graphic on my feedback master slide to help me place the other elements, and I forgot to delete it. The same graphic is on my question slide, so what looked to me like the user's answer disappearing was actually the graphic from the feedback master slide being placed over it. I didn't notice it b/c it was identical to the graphic already there. But I'm not sure I would have figured that out if you hadn't shown me how it is supposed to look - so THANK YOU!
