Can you branch to another question?

Dec 23, 2014

I would like to develop 1 quiz to use at all three of our facilities.  At present the quiz is administered in paper to each site separately as the last question is site specific.  Questions 1 - 9 are standardized as they are relevant to all three sites, but question 10 has to be site specific. Is there a way to develop 1 quiz and "branch" off the last question so that it's site specific?  The tutorials I've seen online refer to branching using a blank slide.  I need to be able to branch to a separate question #10 for each site.  Is there a way of doing this?

Hi:

I have viewed the presentations on Branching, but this is not an ideal option because branching implies that there is a correct answer and the others incorrect.   I have to ask staff:  "What organization do you work for?"

The answers are one of our 4 sites.  Once they select the site they work for, it should take them to a question that is specific to their work site.  This follow-up question will be about their work site and will have answers (1 is correct and 3 are incorrect).  Can this be done as I don't want to create 4 different quizzes.  Can this be done?  Maybe I'm using the wrong question design option?

Sincerely,
Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,

A number of the examples in that thread are for similar situations such as yours - like picking a language, role in the company, etc. so I don't feel like branching implies correct vs. incorrect - just a different path.

Are the questions after the first question going to be the same or different and specific to the work site? If the latter - you can determine which ones they'll see based on how they answer the first question and if the overall "score" percentage isn't as crucial you could report them all on one results slide - and just set the passing score based on the role specific questions in a percentage of the whole. So if there are 10 total questions, but they will only see 3 questions - set the passing score at 30%.

Hi Jennifer,

I think I was having a case of the Mondays and coming back from a holiday yesterday - and thought you were in Storyline. Sorry for any confusion.

The question on which "organization" they work for won't be graded though? So that could be a survey question which would have feedback and branching by choice. But there isn't a way to force the quiz to only grade those that the user answered. So if there are a total of 13 questions, but the user is only going to see 10 of them - their score will still be out of the potential 13 and you could adjust the passing score to accommodate for that.

Hi Jennifer,

All the forums are public - but if you need us to take a look at your file privately, if something isn't working as expected we can do that through a support case. Although design issues such as this one are best handled in the forums. Do you have a sample file or mock up  you may want to share in case we're just not understanding one another and then we could make changes to that specific one or advice what's possible?
