Changing font in Quizmaker Feedback

Jun 20, 2011

Is there a way to change the font (font, color, size, etc) in the Quizmaker feedback (Correct, Incorrect, etc)?

I can see where to change the emphasis (bold, italics, underline) but I'm looking to use a different font.

Thanks for the help.

Hi Adam, and welcome to Heroes! Yep, here's how you can do that.

In Quizmaker, go to Quiz properties > Question Defaults and find the dropdown selector called "Font to use for prompts in the player." Whatever you pick there will be the font used for the "Correct/Incorrect" popups.

If you want to change the button on the pop-up too, go to Player Templates > Edit > Colors and Effects and find the selector called "Player font." The font you choose will also be used for other stuff on your player, like the quiz title at the top of your published quiz, the question navigation panel, and any scoring info that appears on the player itself.

Hope that helps!

Jeanette,

Thank you that helps. Now I'd like to expand this question a bit.

Here's what I'm actually trying to do:

I want to create a simulation of a command line prompt. I was hoping to insert an image in the background that was a screenshot of an actual screen and then have them enter the correct command in a Fill-In-The-Blank type box.  If they got the answer right, the display would show the actual response the system would give, if they got it wrong, it would show an actual error message and then a button that would let them re-enter.

All of that (besides the button) would either need to be on a transparent or solid background to match the image.

Is that even possible? Or am I shooting at a target I'll never hit?

Sure, that's totally do-able! When you're editing the question in Quizmaker, click Slide View to switch to a more graphical interface. Then you can either insert the image of the screenshot (and send it to the back so it doesn't cover up your question)... or, you could click View > Slide Master and add it to a master layout. I'd recommend using a slide master, and I'll tell you why in a second.

So anyway that takes care of the image of the background.

Regarding the feedback, what you might find a lot more convincing is to turn off the question feedback (which would eliminate the popups) and create your own feedback with blank slides. You can branch the learner to a different blank slide depending on whether they got the question right or wrong. Then from either of the blank slides you've built, you can branch them to the next question in the quiz, or to the end if you prefer. Here's a tutorial on using blank slides and branching.

So this is s why I'd recommend using a slide master to insert your screenshot layout.... if you do that, then you can apply the same layout to your blank slides (which will contain your feedback), and just add your own "error message" or whatever else you want on the slide.

I hope that makes sense - but if not, lemme know and we can break it down together.

Jeanette,

That really helped. I had forgotten about master slides and the possibilities of branching.

That being said, I'm still stuck in one area.

As far as I can tell the only way to let the user input information is to use a Fill in the Blank Question type. That works, except for one thing:

The area for the user entry is a grayish box outlined in black. I'm hoping to get that to disappear into the background so that it looks like the command line interface the users are accustomed to seeing. I have changed the background to the same gray color, but the field outline remains and nothing I do seems to work to remove it.

Any thoughts?

Hey Adam, unfortunately it's not possible to make the box around the fill-in-the-blank entry box invisible. I'd recommend submitting a feature request for that.

You've might've already done this, but in Slide View you can resize the box to perhaps fit better within the screenshot you're using - maybe that will help?

Jeanette, is it possible to increase the font size in the default feedback?  I see how I can change the font itself but don't see where/if I can change the size of the default response.

Hello Gloria! You can change the colors associated with your quiz frame and any other colors on your quiz player by following the steps in this tutorial. It sounds like the parameter you need to adjust is "Frame>>Background,"  but if there are other colors you also need to change, the job aid shown here should help you identify which parameters to change. Hope that helps!
