Changing the Theme in Quizmaker

Apr 04, 2017

I'm creating my first quiz in QM360. I chose a theme and multiple choice for my first question. Now, when I try to create a true/false question, I'm not able to apply the theme to the new question. It's driving me crazy and wasting a lot of time. I thought using a theme would streamline the learning curve. What am I missing? Any insight is appreciated.

Hey Steve!

So glad to hear that you're jumping right into Quizmaker 360! Themes are a great way to go, as they can save a lot of design time. I made a quick screen recording of how to apply or change a theme for a quiz question. Take a Peek at it here and let me know if that does the trick for you! We also have this great tutorial over here that may come in handy if you haven't come across it yet. :)

Ali,

You're the best. Such a noob mistake. I was trying to change the theme from within the content library when I was selecting the question type.  Duh!  Now that I've worked a bit more with Storyline, I probably would've eventually figured it out, but you saved me tons of time. Now I can create the knowledge checks quickly and import into SL easily.

Thanks so much for doing this and responding so quickly.

Ali,

I'm finally getting into Quizmaker again today. Thought it would be a quick thing after your clear instructions yesterday (and it's only a simple 10 question knowledge check).

When I go in to insert a T/F question, I see the theme in use (Velocity).

And it applies this to Multiple choice questions., but not T/F (or any of the others).

When I add them, they're just really bland.

I can change the colors/fonts as you indicated on your screen capture, but how do I get all the questions to mirror the sleek design of a theme (like the multiple choice questions)? Or are the themes in Quizmaker only designed for one type of question?

I know there has to be a simple thing I'm missing. It's so frustrating this isn't more intuitive.  Will keep combing the resources you sent in the mean time.

Thanks for any light you can shed on this.

Hey there Steve,

You're not missing anything there, I hadn't realized in your first post that you were referring to the prebuilt themes included so I apologize for any headaches or confusion that may have caused! My colleague Alyssa created a really helpful screencast over here on applying those themes to other question types.

Keep me posted on how that works out for you!

Ali,

Thanks once again for prompt response.  That screencast helped IMMENSELY. I was able to complete my first Storyline course...and build the Knowledge Check in Quizmaker this weekend. As you mentioned, it's a journey and I'm learning new tips every day, but feel like I'm finally over the (first) hump in the learning curve.  Thanks for your help and support. I was so frustrated, but your guidance helped alleviate my frustration in this process.  Thank you. (And big thanks to Alyssa as well!)

That's so great to hear, Steve! Happy Monday :)  I'll be sure to let Alyssa know that you got so much out of her screencast- it's definitely a great resource! Sometimes the best way to learn is to jump right in, and it sounds like that's exactly what you've been doing.

Congrats on completing your first course, such a great feeling! And keep in mind that you're always welcome to share your finished or in-progress courses in our Building Better Courses forum for helpful feedback and tips from the community. That's a great way of continuing to expand your knowledge and skills.
