Do you have a non-question (blank) slide as the first slide in your quiz? If so, that slide will display a previous and next button by default.
Here's another idea! Use a freeform question slide as the first slide. For example, add a freeform pick one slide with a button that says, "I'm ready to start the quiz". Then the learner can select that button and click the Submit button. Finally, set it so that the question is not included in the quiz results score.
You're also welcome to submit a feature request for the ability to remove the previous button, if you'd like!
