Dollar sign ($) issues in report

Apr 01, 2013

Hi all,

We are encountering an issue with our printed reports. When the answer to the multiple choice question is stated as a dollar amount, the printed report not only states the dollar amount, but the answer position number as well.

For instance, if the correct answer in a Quizmaker quiz occurred in the second position, the generated printed results report showed the Student Answer as being "2 $8.95" instead of just "$8.95". Our theory is that the dollar sign symbol($) is "upsetting" the HTML code.

We are not numbering our answers and it does not occur with number answers that do not have a "$" sign. Any guidance you can provide would be much appreciated.

Update: This anomaly also occurs if the answer starts with a decimal point (ex. .0125).

Welcome to E-Learning Heroes Brad!

It does sound like it's modifying the display of the answers, but the responses are still being recorded, correct?

I'm guessing you're using fill-in-the-blank questions for the dollar sign ($) responses, correct? Could you place that symbol before the text field, so the learner can simply enter the amount? Not sure if that will work for your current quiz, but it may cut down on the report issues.

You mentioned that decimals are also showing up differently. Are they displaying the question numbers as well, or are they showing the response in an entirely different format?

Thanks for your response Christine.

All of our questions on our 200+ exams are multiple choice, so we unfortunately don't have the opportunity to use fill-in-the blank.

The decimal related answers are displaying just like the dollar sign in the reports by adding the answer position number in front of the period. Again, I think it has something to do with a character sign (., $) being the first character in an answer vs. being a number or letter.

Below is a screen shot of what is occurring with a dollar sign answer. Please look at "Student Answers" for questions 4, 7, 8, 9.

Thanks

Hi Brad,

Thanks very much for the screenshot. I do agree that the symbols may be causing the issue. However, I'm honestly not sure if there's going to be a way around this.

If you'd like, we'd be happy to take a look at one of the files and see if we can find a way to keep this from happening. You'll be able to attach the .QUIZ file on the second page of the following form:
